Be ready for morning pickup at your hotel in Papagayo Bay or the Tamarindo area, and travel by air-conditioned minivan to reach Palo Verde National Park. Encompassing more than 45,000 acres (18,200 hectares) of protected wetlands and tropical dry forest, the park is an important stop for migratory birds and contains a rich array of plant and animal life.
Climb aboard a covered boat for a leisurely cruise down the Tempisque River. Learn about the surrounding wetlands ecosystem from a guide, and keep an eye out for some of its most noteworthy habitants, including monkeys crouching in the trees and crocodiles and iguanas sunning on the riverbanks. Birdwatchers will have plenty to look for, as scarlet macaws, tiger herons, white ibis, osprey, jabiru, and other species are known to inhabit the area.
After the river safari, travel to the nearby town of Bolson for a delicious homemade lunch. For a dose of local culture, meet resident artists who are keeping the area’s renowned pottery and handicraft traditions alive. Watch a demonstration of the creative process before the return transfer to your hotel in the afternoon.
Palo Verde National Park
A two-hour boat trip will introduce you to this important ecosystem, gigantic crocodiles, monkeys, iguanas and more wildlife than you ever imagined may be spotted. Great bird-watchers prizes can show up, such as the Jabiru, osprey, the white ibis, tiger herons, and scarlet macaws among others. After this great opportunity to see wildlife, you will visit Bolson town for a local and delicious homemade lunch.
Bolson town and surroundings are places well known for having and creating the most traditional and best pottery and handcraft in all Costa Rica. Some of the locals will give you a demonstration of their art and also about the process of handcrafting to complete a day of nature complimented with a cultural touch.

-After the tour you will join a delicious lunch at a restaurant near the river. The lunch is a typical food of Costa Rica named “casado”. In case of allergy or special requests please leave the note.
-After lunch you will be able to receive a speech about the pottery. We will also have the change to buy a pottery if you wish.
-Having taken the lunch you will be transported back to your hotel.
Not one thing to fault. We were thrilled. Saw 2 types of monkeys, lots of beautiful birds -some endangered, lizards, and iguanas. Luckily, we saw a crocodile too!!! Yummy lunch. Tried fresh squeezed, the old fashioned way...by us!
