Pompeii and Herculaneum Small Group tour with an Archaeologist

We did the two tours one after the other. Not recomended at this time of year 7 hours in 35°. But after saying that both tours very interesting tour guide was excellent giving us all the relevant information.

Mike was our tour guide and was incredibly informative and well spoken on the subject. We really enjoyed our 5.5 hr tour and would highly recommend this experience. Well done!!

Our guide was Paula. Small group (3). Absolutely wonderful. Very patient with our questions, extremely knowledgeable. Nothing was a problem. Paula didn’t mind that we went overtime. Couldn’t have had a better experience.

My wife and I went on this tour as part of our honeymoon, and we are very glad we did. It was very helpful to have a real archaeologist who works on site conducting the tour, as the knowledge and insight we gained were powerful. Pompeii was very impressive, and Herculaneum was well worth the additional visit, as the remains are much better preserved. The skeletons found at Herculaneum (the last stop of the tour) are a remarkable (yet horrifying!) way to conclude the visit. The only issue we had was catching everything being shared, as there are no headsets. For this reason, you have to really make an effort to keep up and stay close to the guide. There was a bit of difficulty understanding the English at times, as our guide was a native Italian speaker (obviously). But we got better at understanding him as the visit progressed. Great tour!

We toured Pompeii and Herceulaneum on a chilly but sunny Sunday with Danielle. She was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, having personally worked at the sites while at graduate school. We learned much more than if we had tried to visit the sites on our own. A great experience.

Visiting Pompeii has long been on my bucket list and we were not disappointed. We booked a small group tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Our guide Sergio, is an archaeologist (which I would highly recommend). He was very knowledgeable and gave us much historical background on both sites. Sergio was respectful of the sites and explained how things were found without being ghoulish. Despite the crowds of people visiting the sites, Sergio made sure we each had the opportunity to view each room and fresco. Pompeii is a vast site making it impossible to see the entire city, but we definitely saw all the highlights. Herculaneum is a much smaller site so we were able to walk most of it. It is truly astounding. I strongly recommend that you wear good walking shoes because the cobbles and walls are very uneven making walking sometimes difficult. We did not book transportation from Sorrento, but opted to take the Circumvesuviana train.Some of the trains are air conditioned but only 1 was in our experience making our return trip to Sorrento rather uncomfortable.

Daniella was very very good at showing the highlights and tieing them together between Pompeii and Herculaneum. Group size of 11 was getting unwieldy since we didn’t have headsets.

Excellent tour conducted by excellent guide Michele. Transport between Pompei and Herculaneum was by Circumvesuviana train which on a very hot day was trying. All in all though extremely informative.

Michele was our guide, he was great and so knowledgeable. Couldn't recommend him and this tour more!

Jean-Carlos was an excellent and very knowledgable guide. He could answer any questions as he has worked on this site. We learned not only the main points but also small details from someone who is passionate about his work. A delightful day.
