Begin with pickup at your hotel in Prague, then travel to Karlštejn Castle in an air-conditioned coach that’s comfortable and Wi-Fi equipped. Leave the city behind as you drive into a scenic landscape of villages, hills, and fields. En route to the castle, the guide will share the basics of Karlštejn Castle’s history, and what to look for upon arrival.

Walk a short distance uphill to the castle, then start the hour-long Karlštejn Castle tour: the fortifications were founded in 1348, and have survived sieges, fire, and wars. Find out how the Imperial Crown of the Holy Roman Empire arrived in the castle for safekeeping, then about the later arrival of the Bohemian crown jewels. Learn the castle’s secret weak point that lies beneath the hill, and about the Swedes that finally captured the castle in 1648.

After touring the castle, return to the coach for the trip back to Prague, where this tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel.

1./2 day visit to Karlsten Castle

We sere picked up at the hotel on time and the ride to the castle was very nice. Our guide was as gacious as could be, but very hard to understand what he was saying as he spoke too fast. The walk to the castle was pretty strrenous, but we had enough time to enjoy the castle. I was hoping we would have another gude for the castle, but no such luck.

We had a good tour guide, name is Giuseppe who was extremely knowledgeable and really interested in sharing all the details about his lovely country. Unfortunately, he just continued to talk and flow great facts, data and information, but we never had time to digest the information. After about 1 hour on a 5 hour tour, he became irrelevant and we just wanted to see the sights and get back into Prague. Just a note, if you are not in good shape and with good walking shoes, do not attempt this climb. The return is as difficult as the climb. Total distance was about 2.5 miles up and back. The village was lovely and the outside of the castle was impressive, but you can truly see most of the beauty without taking the tour and just enjoying from the lower levels of the village. Final conclusion....just way too much information in a short period of time.

We were really looking forward to this excursion. Karlstejn Castle is a must see and worth the visit. Unfortunately, our guide was in a bit of a hurry. There were only 4 of us in the group and if we stopped to take pictures, the guide simply kept walking, forcing us to catch up to him. At the base of the castle is a very nice little village. The excursion was suppose to include time to grab a bite to eat and time to look at some of the shops. Again, the guide pressed forward and could not be bothered. I'm sure this would be a better excursion with the right guide.
