After pickup at your central Reykjavik hotel (select hotels only) or Reykjavik cruise port, set out on your 9-hour tour by comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle.
Along the way, pass volcanic mountains, lava plains, and lush farmland, and listen as your guide shares tales about the country’s agriculture, culture, and folklore.
After a while, arrive at the Haafell Goat Farm, a center dedicated to conserving the Icelandic goat, an ancient breed brought here more than 1,000 years ago. Taste some creamy goat’s cheese, and stroll around to learn more about the goat farming techniques. View the goats up-close and, if you wish, take the opportunity to stroke them and take photos.
Then, drive on to Húsafell Bistró and savor a light lunch of classic Icelandic dishes, and admire the stellar views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers as you eat.
Next visit the Hraunfossar Lava Waterfall, to admire the natural phenomenon of waterfalls trickling from the lava field.
Then it's on to the Stedji brewery, an acclaimed, family-run microbrewery founded in 2012 that's famous for its traditional brews and quirky craft beers. Sample some of the beers and lagers as you learn about the brewery’s manufacturing processes, and hear tales of Iceland’s drinking culture.
Continue to Bjarteyjarsandur Farm, a family-owned, working sheep farm in a beautiful fjordland setting that places the emphasis on high quality, environmentally sustainable products. See the sheep and other livestock, and perhaps taste and buy some of the farm-made and local foods on offer (own expense).
Then board your vehicle and head back to the original starting point in Reykjavik.
