Your journey begins on the Capitoline Hill, the heart of Rome, once home to the most important temple in Ancient Rome, the Temple of Jupiter. As you explore the hill and admire the breathtaking views of the Roman Forum, you’ll learn all about the foundation of the ancient city, and hear stories about the lives of the emperors. The piazza of the Capitoline was redesigned by Michelangelo, whose skilful use of space creates a magnificent sense of symmetry and aesthetic perfection.

A walk past the Theatre of Marcellus and through the Jewish Ghetto reveals layers of hidden history. Your guide will share moving stories of the suffering from the Jews, from the discriminatory laws of the sixteenth century to the persecution of the neighbourhood’s Jewish residents during the Holocaust.

After discovering secret squares and atmospheric back streets in the Ghetto, you’ll walk through the beautiful Campo de’ Fiori, a piazza with a vibrant food and flower market, which is one of the liveliest parts of the city centre. This is where the locals come to shop and socialise, in the traditional shops of the artisans and the popular wine bars and gelaterie. However, on your tour you’ll discover that this elegant square has a dark past. You’ll uncover stories of power struggles, illicit affairs and murder plots, taking a winding path through the historic centre of Rome. From the secret lives of the artists to the vices of the popes, all will be revealed on this unusual tour.

The charming back streets near Campo de’ Fiori lead to the river, and the graceful Ponte Sant’Angelo, a Roman bridge lined with statues of angels. This picturesque part of Rome also has a sinister history, involving tales of torture and execution. Crossing the Tiber, you reach the imposing Castel Sant’Angelo, which was originally built as a mausoleum for Hadrian. This magnificent monument dominates the riverbank, but what lies inside is equally impressive. Castel Sant’Angelo was converted into a sumptuous papal residence, as you’ll discover when you explore beautiful, frescoed rooms and uncover the secret history of the castle

This group tour is limited to 13 people, which guarantees a more personal experience, allowing you to ask your guide questions. All tickets are bought beforehand, so you can skip the lines and make the most of your time while exploring Rome.
