My family and I went on this tour. Pompeii was great, but rushed. We were told that we couldn't stop at the souvenir shops because we had to go to a restaurant for lunch and that the same souvenirs would be at the tHerculaneum. This was not the case. There were hardly any souvenirs offered at the Herculaneum and my kids left very disappointed. In regards to the restaurant, it was 14 euro each and for those who brought lunch, they felt awkward. It would better serve this tour to offer "free time" between the two sites at Pompeii where people can choose for themselves where they want to eat and not be forced into what was offered, as well as giving time to explore the souvenirs offered. Overall it was nice to see, but the tour could've been much better in that regard.
This tour was amazing. Our guide was great. We saw all you need to see in Pompeii. Herculaneum was smaller but much better preserved and much less crowded. Make sure you see that with Pompeii. I would also recommend going to the Naples Archeological Museum. Many of the mosaics and other famous items of Pompeii and Herculaneum are there apparently.
Of course it's worth seeing both locations. If you are in your healthy 40s and younger, I don't recommend this tour for you. I'm 29 and the not so mobile set the pace of the tour. My husband and I ran off a couple times so we could see more because we were missing so much. Try find smaller tour.
I was unfortunate enough to make the mistake of booking this tour for the first Sunday of the month. Pompeii has free entry on the first Sunday. This meant the site was extremely crowded, which made getting around very hard. Crowds aside, I did enjoy the sites, my only problem with this tour was the lunch. We were given no option as to where we wanted to eat lunch, we were simply loaded onto the bus and driven to a large restaurant and told that all meals are 15 euro. I would have preferred to have been given the option of spending an hour in a restaurant or an hour of free time at Pompeii. Other than that, we had a great day, many interesting things to see.
Vanessa was an excellent guide: passionate about her local area and the sites, informative and considerate of the varying needs of the clients. She had given a lot of thought to the best ways to view and understand the sites. The lunch cost an extra 13 EU. While not compulsory, it was hard not to go as there were no suggestions as to where else to eat. While inexpensive, the food was very poor- worst I have had on my holiday. The operator needs to rethink this.
