Return Details

Returns to original departure point
Fraser Island boasts dozens of freshwater lakes and creeks, expansive swathes of rainforest and hulking sand dunes. In fact, Fraser Island is the biggest sand island in the world, made from sand that drifted off of mainland Australia over the millennia.

Eurong Beach Resort is your homebase, situated in a picturesque location on Seventy-Five Mile Beach. When booking, choose either a private twin room or a shared 4-person room (see Pricing for details). Three meals are included, in addition to all transportation. Bring swim gear for a dip in Eli Creek, Lake Birrabeen or other spots, and be prepared for leisurely hikes in Pile Valley and Central Station. You might spot dolphins and whales offshore, and glimpse a wild dingo on land. Keep your camera handy!

Itinerary

Day 1: Gold Coast or Brisbane – Fraser Island (L, D)After departure from the Gold Coast or Brisbane, travel by 4WD coach to Cooloola National Park en route to Fraser Island. See kangaroos along the Noosa North Shore and ride down Teewah Beach. Marvel at the brilliant red sands of Red Canyon and Rainbow Beach (subject to weather conditions).
Once you have seen colorful Cooloola, drive onto the ferry to Fraser Island. When you arrive, your guide shows you around the UNESCO World Heritage-listed region by 4WD vehicle. Look for the island’s resident population of wild dingos as you travel!
Hang on as your 4WD vehicle bounces over the white sands of Seventy-Five Mile Beach for a stop to swim at Eli Creek. Strong swimmers can wade upstream to float back down to the beach on the creek’s gentle current.
When you’re refreshed, trek along Indian Head, a rocky headland that boasts great views over the ocean. From its viewpoint, you may glimpse dolphins, rays, sharks, turtles and even humpback whales (during the July to November migration). Then stop for photos at the iconic Maheno Shipwreck. Your guide provides a picnic lunch and sets the itinerary depending on the conditions of the day.
In the evening, arrive at Eurong Beach Resort to check into your room and then have dinner at the on-site restaurant.
Overnight: Eurong Beach Resort, Fraser Island
Day 2: Fraser Island – Gold Coast or Brisbane (B)Get an early start after breakfast at the resort, so that you can make the most of the day! Buzz over to Pile Valley for a rainforest walk where your guide points out the termites-and-fire-resistant satinay trees, making them popular in the timber industry. Arrive at Central Station, a formerly bustling logging station and learn about the importance of Fraser Island to the timber industry; satinay wood was even used in constructing the Suez Canal and London Docks.
Continue to stroll along a boardwalk through towering ghost gums, king ferns and pine trees and see Wanggoolba Creek; the clear water seems to disappear as it flows over white sand. Next swim in Lake Birrabeen or relax on its sandy white beach. Then take a scenic lake drive and end up at Seventy-Five Mile Beach where you can enjoy another taste of the sea and sun.

Have a late lunch (own expense) at Rainbow Beach, where your guide can help you find the best eats. After lunch, catch the ferry back to the mainland to return to Brisbane or the Gold Coast by mid-afternoon.

I really had a great time with a fantastic tour guide and a nice group. We learned a lot and saw beautiful places in Fraser Island. The food was delicious and the hotel rooms were clean. I'm very glad that I did the tour. :)

A Mixed Bag

I thought Rhett was good value, considering he had to do so much driving in 24 hours. His talks were excellent and well prepared and his communication with the passengers were good. He was kind and courteous and made an excellent tour guide. The vehicle was good, but it needed extra steps to get into the back. The accommodation and food was below par and not good value for the price we paid.

Great tour! One of my favourites definitely. You get to see multiple unique landscapes such as beaches, lakes and nature. The lake Birrabeen was amazing and there were not a lot of persons over there so it was really pleasant. The guide M. Trevor was really kind and interesting, his presence was really appreciated. Thank you again!

Better than advertised

The tour was perfect. We have been able to visit all the major points of the island. The guide (Rhett) was really really knowledgeable and brought us to less touristic places when it was possible. The only change I would do is to join the tour in Rainbow Beach as the trip from Brisbane is quite long.

Rhett was the best tour guide we ever had

We went on a 2 day Fraser Island tour with Rhett as the tour guide, a very skilled driver guitar player and super always friendly. His knowledge about the island, history, nature, plants, animals is just amazing. After a day of showing us all the highlights like Indian head, ship wreck, driving along the beach, we went to the beach when it was dark and we saw an amazing sky full at stars and galaxies and had them all explained, a wonderful finish for the first day. In the morning he drove us through the forest on a sand road to a freshwater lake with white sandy beaches and turquoise blue purified water where we went for a swim and had some relaxing and fun time. Then a walk though an amazing rainforest, even with catching a python. The last highlight was the endless long and beautiful drive along the rainbow beach and the red canyon. Everything was well organized and well timed. Thank you so much for this trip, Rhett. It was much more than we expected.

The two day trip was an excellent introduction to Fraser Island and the surrounding areas. Everything was well planned, from the moment we were picked up to being dropped off by our excellent guide Trevor. Trevor was new to the tour, although still learning his trade, he could answer the questions posed and had a good knowledge of the island. We were lucky to see Dingo, Sharks, Whales, Stingrays and turtles. I'd recommend the trip.

+ the guide was amazing (knowledge, insider, kindness, easygoing, like a dad for our trip) + the chosen things were very interesting - breakfast was just a part of the buffet, just the cold and sweet things, it's not that bad, but if you see the warm things, you get jealous

Had an amazing experience at Fraser Island with the Sunset Safari - 2 day Eco Tour. The trip was well organised and Scott (our tour guide) was absolutely brilliant. He is very knowledgeable and super friendly as well. Our stay at the Eurong Beach Resort was amazing and the food was well catered considering our dietary requirements. Although the package is quite pricey, it was worth every penny. Thank you Sunset Safaris for an unforgettable experience! Highly recommended
