  • Great way to experience the magic of the Arctic
Receive an evening bus pickup from the Radisson Blu hotel in Tromso, transferring for 30 minutes to the dog yard in a location just outside of town. You’ll be offered warm winter gear including boots, overalls, gloves, and a hat, and then grab a seat on a sled alongside an experienced “musher” for an evening ride into the mountains.

Enjoy the crisp winter air as you travel by headlamp (and dogs’ noses) into the mountains, keeping your eyes out for the elusive Aurora Borealis. Depending on the activity that evening, you might be rewarded by a spectacular display of red and green lights dancing in the sky above. You’ll spend around 50 minutes on your dog sled ride before returning to the dog yard.

Returning to the yard, you’ll enjoy another 50 minutes for an up-close visit with the yard’s collection of more than 350 four-legged friends, including the puppies. A trained handler will share details about how the dogs are raised and explain the differences between a working sled dog and a pet.

Finish your experience by warming yourself beside the fire with an included dinner of “Bidos” (reindeer stew) with a vegetarian option available on request. You’ll then receive a transfer back to the Radisson Blu.

Had a brilliant time was intersting to learning about the dogs

We took this tour in the evening in the hopes of seeing the Northern Lights. We did but sadly as just a white/grey rainbow arc above us. However, the magic of riding in husky sleds at night made up for that disappointment. The dogs are lovely but be prepared for a strong poo odour as you go!

Well organised and great fun! Had to change my trip to the morning, but actually glad to have enough light to appreciate the amazing scenery.

Well organized in general transport from the meeting point to the facilities, equipment, explanations, dinner and return. The sleigh ride is interesting if you have not done it before as it is a new experience. When doing it at night you have the inconvenience of not seeing the landscapes around you and the advantage or possibility of seeing northern lights. People who are sensitive to animals, even those who are not so sensitive, can become sad and have a hard time seeing dogs in their little houses at very low temperatures and eager to be embraced. The dinner was very good. Fortunately, when we were going to get on the bus to return, nature was fair to us and we watched an aurora borealis. Maybe that settled the balance next to wonderful experience.

Super cool experience! Wld have been better if we could see the Northern Lights as we sled down the fjords. That would be the perfect icing on the cake.

Top quality trip. Cheaper and longer than the cruise ship your and talking to others on board this trip was better value. We would do it again.

Seeing the huskies was a highlight of our trip to Norway. It was interesting to learn from our musher how the female huskies tend to lead at the front of the group. The puppies we got to see were adorable! All of the dogs we saw in the yard were super friendly and eager to be pet. Because the dog yard doesn't have lights, I'd recommend a flashlight to help navigate and take any photos if you're there after dark.
