Overview

Calling all thrill-seekers, this dog sledding experience gives you the chance to drive a 2-person sled pulled by huskies in Tromso. Master the basic techniques of Arctic exploration while you practice mushing, then relax while a fellow passenger tries their hand at steering. Afterward, visit husky puppies at a breeding center. A hot meal is included. Please note that a moderate level of physical fitness is required for this activity.
  • Dog sledding experience in Tromso
  • Designed for thrill-seekers with no previous experience
  • Steer a sleigh pulled by long-distance-trained huskies
  • Enjoy a hearty lunch and cake around the campfire
Greet your guide in Tromso city center in the morning, depending on the departure time selected at checkout.

Following a short drive into Norway’s snow-smothered wilderness, arrive at the dog-sledding center to receive an orientation talk that deems previous experience unnecessary.

Then, once you feel prepared, board a sled pulled by up to eight huskies, known for their endurance running across long distances. Glide through Norway’s frozen wilderness and stop to visit a husky breeding center, home to about 300 dogs. During a guided tour of the kennel and puppy enclosure, hear information about the dogs, the races they are running, and animal welfare.

On the return to your start point, warm up with a hot meal and homemade chocolate cake. A vegetarian option is available.

Your tour concludes with drop-off at your original Tromso departure point.

Great experience, a little pricey

Me and my travel partner was running slightly late so we revived a phone call. All the coaches we had on our trip left on time and this was no exception if it wasn’t for us. Travel time from tromso was about 50 minutes. Upon arrival we was advised to change into their insulated onesie rather than wearing our own outdoor gear as some dogs tend to jump up and could tear open expensive kit. Was asked to leave bag at the reception to lighten the load for the dogs which I felt comfortable doing. We was taken into one of the two areas ‘kennels’ where there could have been somewhere in the region of 100 dogs present. All were friendly that we met and could go and stroke take pictures with them without feeling frightened. We was also taken to the puppy pen where we was greeted by several adorable puppies. Following this we was told how to drive the sledge for ours and the dogs safety. A good hour worth of dog sledding followed where half way round we could swap from driving to being a passenger. After getting changed we went for lunch which was supplied along with tea, coffee and hot chocolate. On offer was reindeer stew (basically tastes like beef) or a vegetarian option followed by chocolate cake 4/5 stars as the price was rather a lot for the duration of the day. I left a bag there containing a camera and video footage of the day. They very kindly put it on the coach the next day for collection in tromso which I was very greatful for.

What a wonderful experience my husband and I will never forget! A must see if your in the Tromso area. The staff was super friendly and made the excursion feel effortless. The bus came to pick us up at the designated meeting point, on time and clean. Lunch was delicious and was one of the best things I had during my stay in Norway! They were especially great with food allergies, the lunch was GF and DF in case this is something you or your family deals with. They even had GF toast and GF desert! Thank you thank you thank you!

A bit expensive, but driving a dog sled yourself is a very special experience. The dogs and especially the puppies are also incredibly cute.

This was a fantastic tour. The people worked hard to allow us to enjoy the experience. Providing clothing, plenty of time with animals and even puppies, and a good lunch as well. It was harder than I thought it would be to keep the balance, but was able to get the hang of it. Highly recommended!!!

Thai is a must for anyone in Tromsø. My first experience mushing and its a brilliant experience both driving and as a passenger. Did this in December with only twilight during the day but the views were amazing. After you get to spend time with the dogs and puppies. After you get a lunch with the most amazi g chocolate cake! I didn't want to leave and will definitely be back!

Breathtaking Experience

My husband and I booked this trip for the first day of our honeymoon in Tromsø. Absolutely phenomenal experience! We were encouraged to spend plenty of time before and after the ride with the dogs (and puppies!), had plenty of time to enjoy the Sami Hut for lunch - the hot reindeer stew is tasty and filling after a morning out in the snow - and the sledding itself was exhilarating! Gorgeous views of the fjords and mountains around the island of Tromsø. Friendly and helpful team of dog sledders to assist, and an all-around great experience. I would highly recommend this activity to anyone visiting the area!

Everyone should learn to drive a husky-sled in Norway. If you are normal fit and not afraid of a challenge, this is the no 1 thing to do. The facility was nice. Happy eager dogs. Nice staff and all we needed more was a puppy home with us.. nice reindeersoup/veagan alternative for the new style.. loved the hrs with you. By the way, the transfer was excelent with safe and comfortable drivers!
