Cove Bay
Situated between Rendezvous Beach and Maunday’s Bay in Anguilla’s West End, Cove Bay is one of the few beaches on the island with no resort development. As such, it attracts travelers wanting a quiet alternative to some of the busier beaches on the island.
The basics
With few buildings to spoil the view, Cove Bay is Anguilla as its most secluded. Many people come here to stretch out on a sun lounger and get lost in a book. If you’re not staying on the island you can still enjoy some time on this quiet beach with a catamaran day trip from neighboring St Maarten. There’s a small reef for snorkeling at the east end of the bay.
Things to know before you go
- In high season, you’ll find an inflatable aqua park anchored just offshore with waterslides and sunbathing pontoons.
- There’s limited shade at the beach so remember to bring sunscreen and a hat or consider renting a lounger with an umbrella.
- Although there aren’t any restaurants at Cove Bay, you can grab a drink or a snack at Cip's, situated at the swanky Cap Juluca hotel at nearby Maundays Bay.
How to get there
Cove Bay is located in Anguilla’s West End. The best way to get around on Anguilla is by car or taxi, as there’s no public transportation on the island. There’s a small airport on the island but most international flights in the region arrive and depart at the nearby island of St Maarten, with visitors making the transfer via ferry, speedboat, or small plane. Cove Bay is a short hop by boat from Grand Case in St Maarten.
When to get there
The high season in Anguilla is mid-December to mid-April, when hot sunny days are the norm and all the bars and restaurants on the island are open. From May-July the weather can be very hot, and June–November is hurricane season, when storms are most likely and some businesses may be closed.
Watch the Sunset
Catching the sunset is a favorite local pastime on Anguilla, and a great way to round out a day on the island. The beaches on the north coast are best for catching the daily show, including Crocus Bay, Shoal Bay and Meads Bay. Pack a picnic or stop in at a beach bar for a front-row seat. Once the sun has finally disappeared it’s time for a tasty dinner of barbecue chicken or locally caught crayfish.
