With more than a dozen ski resorts located throughout the Andes mountains and along the Chilean border, Argentina is one of the best places in South America to get your powder fix. Ski season runs from mid-June to late-September, so get yourself to one of these ski resorts.

Las Leñas and Los Penitentes
Las Leñas and Los Penitentes resorts are both easily accessible from Mendoza and offer plenty of pistes for beginner and intermediate skiers. Las Leñas, in particular, is renowned for its extreme ski runs, with its double black diamond chutes frequented by thrill-seeking skiers. Snowboarders, cat skiing, and heli-skiing tours are also available and elevation reaches up to 10,958 feet (3,340 meters).

Cerro Castor
Argentina’s southernmost city, Ushuaia, is best known for glacial hiking and Patagonia to Antarctic cruises, but if you fancy hitting the slopes when you’re down south, there’s also a ski resort at Cerro Castor. Thanks to its icy climate, Cerro Castor features the longest ski season in South America. There’s also a ski school with lessons for all abilities and activities, including skiing, snowboarding, and snow blading.

Cerro Catedral
Located in the Nahuel Huapí National Park and just a short drive from Bariloche, Cerro Catedral is Patagonia’s largest resort. There’s almost 3,000 acres (1,214 hectares) of skiable terrain, ample visitor facilities at the foot of the mountain, and spectacular views of Nahuel Huapi Lake.

La Hoya
A little further afield, southern La Hoya is the best place for those on a budget, with cheap lift tickets and reasonably priced ski rental. Situated south of Bariloche, it’s a popular choice with local families.

Cerro Bayo
The most exclusive—and priciest—of Bariloche’s ski resorts, Cerro Bayo has excellent downhill skiing and stunning views of Lake Nahuel Huapi. Part of Villa La Angostura, it also has some of the region’s most luxurious hotels, bars, and restaurants right on its doorstep.
