The Basics

To reach the chalet, an opulent elevator decorated with brass, leather, and Venetian glass rises through solid rock to the summit. At the top, visitors can explore almost-untouched rooms, visit underground bunkers, and dine at the site’s cozy panoramic restaurant and beer garden. Take a day trip from Salzburg or Munich to relax and enjoy the scenery on your way to Eagle’s Nest, and learn about the site’s history from an expert tour guide. Visitors who want to get an overview of the region can opt for a combo tour to see Eagle’s Nest along with nearby highlights such as King’s Lake and the 450-year-old Salzburg Salt Mines.

MY*GUiDE EXCLUSiVE Lake Königssee, 'Fuehrer Headquarters' & EAGLE'S NEST Tour from Munich
Stefan is an experienced, helpful and fun tour guide. Had a wonderful day seeing the Lake, the Eagles Nest and the Obersalzberg area. Pickup was on-time, excellent driving and very knowledgeable about the area. Stefan even found us a covid testing site on our tour route so we could test in preparation for our return flight the following day. A private comfortable van with an experienced driver and fun tour guide made this a special day to remember. Thank you Stefan!!

Skip-the-Line: Eagle's Nest in Berchtesgaden Tour from Salzburg
The tour and its location is great, definitely worth seeing. The tour guide (Walter) was witty and very knowledgeable. The trip was comfortable in the minibus and later in the city bus up the mountain. There was enough time for us in the eagles nest to explore and then have a cup of coffee with great view. Definitely would recommend:)

MY*GUiDE EXCLUSiVE Lake Königssee, 'Fuehrer Headquarters' & EAGLE'S NEST Tour from Munich
What a wonderful day. The lake is absolutely breathtaking, definitely take the short walk to the upper lake. It was a beautiful walk, easy for stroller. The view from Eagle’s nest was foggy for us at the top but you’re practically up in the clouds so what else can you expect. But the bus area where you get on the elevator to go up to eagle’s nest gave an absolutely beautiful view also. Stefan was great, very knowledgeable and kind.

Private Tour: Eagle's Nest, Berchtesgaden, Golling Waterfalls and Lake Fuschl
Patrick, with MCM Tours and Travel - Salzburg, customized our trip to Hallstatt, Hallein and the Eagles Nest attractions to meet our groups desire to see the best sites that Salzburg has to offer. Patrick was a knowledgeable and excellent conversationalist. He answered questions about food, customs and places to stay as well as explaining the rich history of Austria and the complications of the world wars in the Salzburg area. Worth every penny to have a knowledgeable driver and your guide.

Be prepared for bad weather. I came here in August hoping to avoid weather like that, but it rained and was cloudy. Other than that, it was a great experience.

The Eagle’s Nest, Then & Now

The lodge was built in 1939 to celebrate Hitler’s 50th birthday, and was originally intended to serve as a retreat and meeting house for the Nazi Party. It was seldom used for its intended purpose, however, due to the outbreak of World War II. Today, visitors come from all over the world to learn about German history and enjoy summer weather at the on-site restaurant and beer garden (biergarten).
