The Basics

Most visitors reach the active volcano on Nea Kameni, whose crater continues to rumble and puff out steam, by way of a boat tour departing from the town of Oia, the Old Port of Fira, or the Athinios port on Santorini’s main island. Once on the island, you can hike up to the crater’s rim and take in the views across lava fields to Greece’s Aegean Sea. Worth it! but be prepared

Get ready to hike the volcano! It is doable but will require some energy. You wont be in the thermal water for much time but it is a cool experience. I recommend going down and up in cable car vs walking because it is slippery and will take a long time.

Santorini Volcano & Hot Springs Tour

We were unprepared for a 30 minute hike up to the volcano. We didn't have appropriate footwear or water. Nothing in the write up prepared us adequately for this adventure nor were we prepared to jump off the boat into the caldera and swim to the hot springs which are not hot.

Wonderful tour! Would highly recommend. The climb to volcano is not easy but very doable and so worth the experience and views. I didn’t expect the hot springs swimming to be as good based on the reviews but it was wonderful! Not super hot but warm and the swim to the hot spring was in cold water but refreshing. I am glad we did it!

Caldera Half Day Tour (Volcano, Hot Springs, Thirassia)

Comfortable boat, seating in shade for those avoiding the sun. We'll run and informative guide who translated into 4 languages. Volcano trip worth the walk up and guided tour if preferred. Great views of craters and all around. Then onto the Hot (Luke warm) springs for 20/30 swim then Tharasia for lunch. 6 hours trip, back on land by 1630, helpful crew, great value for money.

The yacht was fancy and there was enough space for everyone. The crew was very friendly and responsive to our needs. The food was good. The drinks were okay but we wish there was more variety in the drinks like champagne. No sunset which was unfortunate but still a great experience in Santorini.

Caldera Half Day Tour (Volcano, Hot Springs, Thirassia)

Had plenty of time to explore the volcano and therasia. Did not have much time to swim at the hot springs. The springs were 25 degrees so warm rather than hot as described by the tour guide. The prices are probably the cheapest with this operator. Make sure to jump off for the hot springs early so you get enough time to swim. If you are the last to climb down into the water, you will barely make it to the beach.
