St. Antony's Monastery, located at the foot of Al-Qalatam hill near Al Zaafarana, was founded in 356 after the saint's death and is the oldest active convent in the world, the monastery's hermit founders in subdued colors and icons. There is also a library of over 1,700 handwritten manuscripts.
