Cool Fort, Canal and wild animals!
Walt_H
, Feb 2020
Over all the tour was great. Our driver was great at stopping and showing us animals in the wild, like monkies and sloths, as we toured the jungle.
San Lorenzo Fort was very cool with vast, beautiful vistas all around. The Canal Expansion was cool and we stayed long enough to see a ship exiting and another entering, and others waiting in a que, in a side bay.
There were also clean restrooms and refreshments at the Fort and the Canal locations, with ample security.

Good Overview

We first drove thru the rain forest stopping along the way to see wildlife including monkeys and sloths on our way the San Lorenzo Fort. Along the way, our guide (Julio) provided an informative narrative on the history of Panama. The road was very bumpy, but it was a nice van with good working A/C. At the fort, the vista was beautiful and it was easy to see it's strategic importance as the inland waterway (river) it protected was the transit route for European commerce to the Pacific Ocean from the 1500's until the Canal was opened 500 years later. (The waterway the fort protected took ships within 16 miles of Panama City where the remainder of trip had to be over land.) The highlight of the trip was the Canal visitor center at the Agua Clara locks. There was a short film on the history of the canal. We were able to see 2 vessels transverse the locks. The only reason for not giving this tour 5 stars is because of the long and bumpy ride to the fort. Not part of the tour, but the town of Colon looks like it's been fire bombed. Our cruise ship advised passengers not to walk into town.

Do not spend your limited time in Panama on this tour from the ship

The vehicle was uncomfortable, too much time spent driving, too much time without our guide (on our own for two out of three stops). No time allowed for lunch (even on our own). I do not recommend this tour.
Response from Host , Feb 2020
Thank you for your feedback, we are surprised to indicate that the 30 passenger bus was uncomfortable, when you traveled with just 19 passengers and in the front row with your husband right beside the guide. In fact, this tour was not long, just 5 hours, compared to the Panama City tour, length 10 hours, or the Panama Canal partial transit , length 12 hours. In fact, after driving for 20 minutes we were already crossing the longest bridge in Central America and with a fabulous view of the Panama Canal and the lemon bay, after crossing the bridge we enjoyed the tropical forest and the driver stopped at many occasions to see animals in their habitat like monkeys, sloths, cuati-mundi, others. During the tour to the fort of San Lorenzo, the guide explain valuable information about Panama and its history, including the fort of San Lorenzo. They were told to look on their own that the guide would be in the area so they could ask questions, many of the clients spoke with the guide and clarified all doubts about the fort during the stay there.
On the way to the Panama Canal, the guide explained to them how the Panama Canal works and the clients were able to ask questions and clarify doubts, as soon as they arrived at the canal, the guide explained the time inside the Canal it is 1 hour approx. that they went to see the movie in English and then they went to the balcony to see the ship travel, that he was going to be on the balcony waiting for those who had additional questions or doubts, again almost all clients interacted with the guide.
Unfortunately the client did not observe that inside the jungle and the fort San Lorenzo there is no restaurant for lunch, so we bring tropical fruits so they can eat a healthy snack before arriving at the cruise port and its restaurants.
Again thank you for your time to write your feedback. We really wish the best for you and your husband, enjoy the rest our your cruise vacation.

Best possible excursion for cruise ship passengers who want to spend half a day in Colon. Highly enjoyable, informative, full of experiences.
A particular thank you to Alex, our guide, clever and always available for questions, however silly!

Sehr interessante Tour

Regenwald ohne Tiere macht wenig Spass.
