Ideal for those who wish to discover more about Cairns’ indigenous culture, this 9-hour tour combines an experience of Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park with a visit to Palm Cove, a pristine sandy beach. In Tjapukai, you’ll participate in a fire-making ceremony, learn to throw boomerangs and spears, and listen to a didgeridoo performance before heading to Palm Cove to spend free time relaxing. On this small-group tour, limited to 15 people, hotel pickup and drop-off in Cairns are included.
  • 9-hour trip to Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park and Palm Grove from Cairns
  • Experience indigenous aboriginal culture in Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park
  • Witness a fire-making ceremony, a cooking demonstration, and a dance
  • Spend free time relaxing on the white sands of Palm Grove
  • Small-group tour, limited to 15 people
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off in Cairns included
Climb aboard an air-conditioned minivan at your Cairns hotel and relax during the scenic drive to Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, during which you’ll pass through sugarcane fields in the shadow of the Kuranda Range.

On arrival at Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, receive a welcome face painting and listen to an educational presentation detailing the artistic traditions and history of aboriginal communities.

Watch a cooking presentation using a bayngga (clay oven), enjoy a Tjapukai dance performance, and learn about how natural ingredients are used as medicine and sustenance in the rainforest. The dulcet tones of a didgeridoo flood your ears during a performance, and then you’ll have the chance partake in boomerang- or spear-throwing activities.

After a performance of a dance derived from the Torres Strait, you’ll proceed to Palm Cove to spend the afternoon as you wish. Take a long walk along the sandy stretch of coast, rent a kayak or Jet Ski (own expense), or simply recline beneath an umbrella and watch the waves.

At a time prearranged with your guide, return to your vehicle and relax during the journey back to your Cairns hotel.

This would have been an overall 5 stars if the trip had purely been the Tjapukai Culture experience! This was absolutely brilliant. The talk in the theater explaning the origin of the Tjapukai people was fascinating, as was the display of dancing. Although be forewarned, if you do not wish to join in the dancing, do not sit in the front row. Learning how to throw both boomerangs and spears was also exciting. Well worth the money. Palm cove is beautiful, but for me, once i have strolled along a beach front, unless I am going to do something else, I find beach life a bit dull, so could have done with less then 5 hours there. But that is just my own preference. Had I thought before hand about this sooner, i would have pre-booked a jet-ski tour.
