This long day started with a timely pick up and drive to the Cairo airport. The flight to Luxor would take an hour and ten minutes on Egypt Air. Mohamed, my guide, and the driver met me at the airport. A short tour of Luxor ensued. We stopped at Hatshepsut's restaurant and coffee shop where we feasted on falafel in bread with assorted vegetables on the side. Quite tasty. Onward to the Valley of the Kings where I walked back into ancient Egyptian history. There were 3 tombs. All had wonderfully preserved hieroglyphics depicting the life of a pharaoh. You had to pinch yourself to realize what you were seeing!! Next stop was Karnak Temple Complex located on the east bank of the Nile in Thebes. These structures dated back to over 2,000BC. We proceeded to Hatshepsut's temple, one of Egypt's greatest architectural achievement. Mohammed detailed the historical significance of this female pharaoh as a man was only allowed to assume the throne. We had a wonderful lunch as L left my comfort zone to try stuffed pigeon. At every turn, Mohammed was a gracious host, offering Turkish coffee, snacks, or a short rest. This day excursion lasts more than 12 hours and is worth every penny. Highly recommended.

A good value, and a worthwhile trip. Many excellent historical sites, and a very cute town. Tour guide was very good, and very knowledgeable. They could, however, skip the shopping at the rock store - all the high pressure sales tactics. Some problems with communication with the hotel pickup, driver was an hour late.
