    Chichen Itza

Your tour begins with an early morning departure. Arriving at Chichen Itza, join your specialized guide for an in-depth tour of the site, and enjoy the tranquility of your early-morning visit before the crowds arrive. Throughout the trip, your archaeological guide’s commentary provides essential background to the well-preserved site of Chichen Itza. Learn how this large pre-Colombian city played an important role in Mayan civilization from around A.D. 600 to 1200, and remained a center of worship and pilgrimage until the arrival of the Spanish. Even today, it is still considered a sacred site by the Yucatán peninsula’s Maya population. Like many of ancient Mexico’s cities, the site was abandoned, and its ruins were hidden by jungle. Hear how the site was discovered and unearthed by archaeologists, gaining UNESCO protection and considered today one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Your guide will explain the philosophy, cosmology and mythology behind this ancient site, such as the meaning of the stone carvings, pyramids, platforms, ball courts and staircases. Visit the Observatory, Temple of the Jaguars, Temple of the Warriors and of course the famous El Castillo, also known as the Temple of Kukulkan.  Return around 3:00 p.m. With this Viator Exclusive, your early morning trip to Chichen Itza helps you to beat the crowds so you can enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at your own leisure!

Vicente is a great tour guide
    Amber_L, May 2022
Vicente is a great tour guide who is knowledgeable with great sense of humor and made our experience unforgettable.
    poorly described trip
    Chris_O, May 2022
complaint to be made, trip was not as sold/described. arrived 2hrs after opening & no tequila tasting
    Very early but worth it.
    Gail_C, May 2022
It was a great experience. Marco and Rodrigo were very knowledgeable and personable. It was very hot and Marco was on point with his recommendation to rent the umbrella. We missed reading that we would be swimming at the cenote. Oh well, it was a lovely spot to sit, relax and have a cold beverage. A friend took basically the same tour through another tour company. When we told him about ours he was a little jealous.

Marco and Rodrigo were awesome tour guides. Very knowledgeable and made sure the tour was fun and exciting. Buffet lunch was great, try the pork tacos. The tequila tasting and cenote at the end of the trip was refreshing and tasty experience!
    False description
    Ross_E, May 2022
Described as “early access and avoid the midday heat” but we arrived at Chichen Itza at 12pm to the busiest time and the hottest part of the day…
    Response from Host, May 2022
Dear Amig@ We deeply regret your disappointment. In the change of tour that was made, the itinerary also changed, that was the reason why we arrived a little later to the archaeological site. Dulce, Amigo Tours

    Fun despite an accident
    Tommy_C, May 2022
This excursion started off a bit wonky. The driver of our initial bus hit a car as we were departing one of our pickup places and I believe we lost about 45 minutes to an hour of time. This meant not arriving to see the sights at Chichen Itza as the sun was rising/ or rather as early as was promised. Once the excursion was back on trach, however, it went fairly smoothly. Our new driver, Alfredo kept us safe. Our guide, Frank was fantastic. He was full of information about Mayan culture that was not taught in schools and that was refreshing. I thoroughly enjoyed his knowledge. The buffet lunch was great, but I got full fairly fast, so couldn’t eat as much as I wanted to. But I will say, the fish was so tasty! And the tequila tasting was located in the same vicinity as the cenote, so you could do your tasting before or after, but it's recommended to do so before the cenote. Also... the tequila is amazing! Of note: Bring enough money to support at least 1 or two of the vendors at the many locations we go to. NO need to buy anything extravagant. Just be prepared to pour back into the economy a bit since tourism tends to be how many of the people make their money. Also, have a currency converter app downloaded on your mobile device, just in case you need to check the prices of things. There were times when vendors tried to overcharge me just because I am an American and I was able to say “That is overpriced.” Basically, be prepared to haggle… Overall, even with time lost, a good time.
Excellent tour guides but hidden charges
    Kirstie_B, May 2022
Brilliant trip and the tour guides were so knowledgeable. Only downside was all of the extra costs that are not made clear before booking. It's an extra 31 dollars EACH to enter Chichen itza. Plus there's a rental charge for lifejackets at the cenote, something you cannot swim without

    Awesome experience
    Jiaqian_L, May 2022
Awesome experience overall, despite the bus situation in the morning. Our tour guide Frank was awesome, he knows and used both English and Spanish during the bus ride to explain everything that we need to know about the trip. We also learned the real Maya histories from him and get to experience a little bit of Maya cultural during one of the stops. Chichen Itza was wonderful, we get to learn the history and background of the ancient Maya and the building itself. 10/10 recommend! Worth the money and time
Great Value. 3 trips in one.

Do not book Amigo Tours. Trust the bad reviews
    dentist363, May 2022
Had a total shocker when the tour operator didn't turn up. An early start with a 2 Yr old and 4 year old was not easy. Waiting for our 5.45 am pick up. No one came! Complete waste of time, effort and money. Claiming they turned up, lies. Our hotel tried calling them multiple times and confirm the no show. They then said Amigo Tours are known for being late or not turning up. Beware! I'd book through the hotel next time.

Good tour guide but timing needs to be managed as stated
    Priya_S, May 2022
The tour guide( Rodrigo) at chichen itza was wonderful and knowledgeable. The timing was bit awkward, tour says early access to chichen itza and buffet lunch. However, buffet was served in morning 10 and visited chichen itza at 2 pm.

    Beyond my expectations
    Marissa_D, Apr 2022
We were a bit skeptical before the tour as we were contacted with defaulted messages saying we needed to pay more when we already paid for certain amenities. Amigo Tours assured us we didn’t need to pay anymore, only that we upgraded to a longer session at Chichen Itza. Marcos was amazing with translating everything he was saying in English and Spanish. He talked pretty fast, so just keep that in mind and know you can always ask the person next to you for clarification once he’s done talking. He was so good about preparing us for each destination, and giving us an overview of what to expect and how much time we had at each site. Efrain, the driver was great and I didn’t feel any whiplash throughout the whole day. I felt safe and comfortable enough to close my eyes and nap. Rodrigo was our tour guide at Chichen Itza and his guidance was beyond amazing. I felt he had the insider scoop on literally everything. More than once, I saw people from other groups look at us because Rodrigo showing and telling was so captivating. He was so patient with everyone, and giving us the best photo with the pyramid in the back group. 10/10 would recommend.

    Great day experience
    Lisa_S, Mar 2022
My husband and I had a great time on our excursion. Our group leader, Samuel, and our driver, Manuel, were professional, personable, and led the group with expertise. Samuel was amazing when it came to switching from English to Spanish in order to accommodate everyone in the group. The trip had a great combination of shopping, sight seeing, historical teaching, lunch, and of course, Tequila tasting. It was a great day.
