A Fabulous and Fantastic Day in Marrakech
, Oct 2019
We had the most wonderful day with two lovely Moroccan gentlemen. It has long been a dream to visit Marrakech and they made the dream come true for us. Friendship Across the Sea Yesterday, Thursday, October 3, 2019, we met two young men in Morocco. Amine Ouakkadi lives in Casablanca and Joussef Kharroubi lives in Marrakech. We did not know these men but Amine was our driver and guide for our 2.5 hour drive from the Port of Casablanca to Marrakech. He has been a driver and tour guide for sixteen years. Amine is the father of three children, a daughter and two sons. His youngest child is only six months old. Once we arrived in Marrakech we connected with Joussef for our walking tour of the old city, the palace, the beautiful gardens dedicated to the memory of Yves Saint Laurent, our luncheon restaurant and our tour through the narrow shopping streets inside the walls of the old medina. The wall is18 kms encircling the old city and there are 9 gates in which to enter. We were introduced to so many wonderful Moroccans and each and everyone of them treated us with kindness, respect and hospitality. We were served hot tea in a private home and also hot tea in the beautiful carpet shop. We were told over and over that we were welcome in the city and that they were very happy to have us visit. There is no shortage of hospitality in Marrakech. We had a great conversation with our guide while on our camel ride and we stopped for a few minutes while he pulled the tender shoots from the centre of a small palm tree. We were not sure why but as he walked with us he wove them into two small camels and he presented them to us as gifts and a souvenir of our day with him. They will hang on my Christmas tree this year. We laughed and had great conversations with the camel herdsman as well as the people of the city. I met a wonderful young woman Ema who worked in a specialty shop which created Koutoubia Herbal oils which is Moroccan Argan oil. She explained that the nuts are taken from the trees, split open and the seeds are ground and the oils are extracted. It was a very time consuming practice and interesting to see. Ema will celebrate her 20th birthday on October 6th so we are both born under the Libra sign and I will remember her on her special day. At our restaurant the waiters could not do enough for us. So much food presented to us and served with generosity and kindness. Our walk through the old city was beyond interesting and informative. Joussef knew e

Marrakesh has impressed us a lot. This was fantastic experience. However, it would not be possible without excellent organization of the trip. Our driver Amin not only safely drove us to Marrakesh and back, he was able to provide very interesting information about the country and Morocco culture. We were also lucky with the local guide Yusuf in Marrakesh. He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We will remember this trip for a long time, and will probably return to this ancient town.
Great time with Abdullah

We had an absolutely amazing journey and excursion to Marrakech. Our driver Mulat was early, timely, pleasant, and knowledgeable. Abdullah provided us with really fine and useful historical information. He maintained a most pleasant demeanor and energy. His behind-the-scenes tours transported to another world we could not have accessed ourselves. The day was concluded with a camel ride. No words for this!!!! We are very grateful to Mulat and Abdullah for truly valuable experiences.

A Perfect Casablanca Excursion

This day was amazing from start to finish. Communication/coordination with the company was smooth and easy. Our driver (Arab) was charismatic and chill, he had water and charging cords ready for us and was happy to chat with us whenever. First - the camel ride was a total blast! The folks running the camel excursion were super kind and the language barrier was no issue. It was longer than we anticipated which was perfect because we thought it was just going to be a photo-opp but it turned out to be a longer stroll really allowing us to see what long treks on the back of these creatures could have possibly felt like. Afterward we enjoyed an AMAZING lunch at this gorgeous home that we couldn't get enough of. Upon arrival to Marrakech our tour guide (Yousef) was awesome - super friendly and interesting. He covered a lot of really incredibly historical and cultural context behind what makes Marrakech unique, taking us to gorgeous sites and pointing out things we would have missed without his expertise. We never felt uncomfortable or unsafe, everyone we met and interacted with was incredibly friendly, generous and enthusiastic about their city and culture. This excursion was the perfect use of a day to see some of what makes Morocco so iconic, this excursion definitely made us want to return to Morocco again soon!!

This tour was very good, the guide in Marrakexe was excelente, he knew a lot about history, the people and theis habits, bravo, Youssef!! The only negative point was that they didnt pick us up at the hotel as said in the site, they said that it was only for private tour and not for small group. The site says that pick up in hotel is for small and private groups. but on the way back they left us in hotel... I recomend this tour, the food is great and the camel ride was very fun!

Driver was the only highlight
, Jun 2019
The only reason this trip gets 2 stars is because our driving was amazing. I can't boast enough about how kind, caring, and informative our driver was. He was enthusiastic about his job and gave more history of Morocco than anyone else we met. Zouhair was a delight and I am so thankful we met him. That said, hew as the only truly good part about this trip. Now, for the rest of the trip. I couldn't have been more disappointed. There were a lot of camel riding options and the one we went two was awful. To start, the camels looked abused and mangey. They were clearly not happy and you could see that they are not well cared for. Perhaps this is my ignorance on riding animals on a trip but I saw plenty of other camel activities along our riding route where the camels were not as tied up and didn't look to be hit or worse. Finally, the guide spent the whole 20 minutes riding telling us about why we need to tip him and how he isn't paid for the tours. Of course we would tip him but this made the entire experience a complete drag. After the camels we arrived in the city center where we were dropped off to meet our 'official tour guide'. We would have been better off being left to explore on our own. The first stop was the palace and the guide walked so quickly despite us slowing down to take pictures that we were basically dragged through. We repeatedly tried to reduce the speed and he would keep walking ahead. There was no interest in sharing about what we are seeing. He gave a quick script and immediately started walking quickly through. As we weaved through the markets we could barely stop and look at anything. When we finally got to a shop that he wanted us to go in it was clear that this was a 'friend' who was then giving us a sales pitch with the intent to guilt us into a purchase. At the next shop I liked the products but they quickly made sure we spent hundreds of Euros and at that point you felt so guilty you didn't put anything back. The next two stops were the same story for different products. We were then quickly ushered through the rest. The lunch was fine but it was disappointing that water wasn't included and cost as much as the 'menu' said the entire meal for 1 cost. I've traveled a lot through North Africa, India, and Thailand and have never had such a terrible tour experience. I hope this was related to the guides we happened to draw but this was a horrid experience. One more time, I want to thank our driver. He was great.

It was a really nice tour overall, however, I would make it a bit longer. Leaving Marrakesh at 5 pm seems a little too early. I would like to especially thank the driver who was a great guy who helped us all along and made sure we saw enough of the city. He made this trip special for us!
Great experience from Casablanca...

Great experience from Casablanca, the driver Salmane was really wonderful he took us on time 7:00 am from the Hotel to Marrakech, one pit stop in the middle of the road. We arrived in Marrakech and the tour guide was expecting us, showing different places by walk of this great city tour guide was really knowledgeable about the city and the history and the iconic paintings across the city. We enjoyed a really good food typical pork on the market. He bargained for us a couple of times to get the right price for the things we bought. Next, a camel ride stop, really good price with Morroco tea included and finally a visit to the Garden nothing special for those who knows some flora and fauna from desertic places, i.e.: cactus, nopal, etc my recommendation is to spend more time on the market and see the city through bargain process.
