Following pickup from your hotel in Managua, make the trip to Granada in a comfortable, climate-controlled vehicle. On the way, get to know your local guide and ask any questions you may have about Nicaraguan culture or history.
Start your overview of Granada with a stop at the Casa de los Tres Mundos, where you'll tour its colonial mansion headquarters and learn about its mission to support cultural projects in Nicaragua and the rest of Central America. Learn about the center's history and view some of the art by local painters and sculptors.
At Parque Central (Central Park), view the surrounding colonial architecture and peruse the local market, then visit the Convent and Museum of San Francisco for a tour that includes an opportunity to view pre-Columbian pottery and statues.
After lunch at a nearby restaurant (own expense), head for Lake Nicaragua and board your small boat. Cruise around the archipelago of 365 islands, host to native wildlife and many wealthy Nicaraguans' vacation homes. These islands are residue from the lava of nearby Mombacho Volcano's eruption over 10,000 years ago. Look for warblers, jays, tanagers and hawks while learning about the lake from your guide.
Disembark back on the shores of the lake and board your vehicle for the ride back to Managua.
