Itinerary
Stop At:
Auke Bay
Your whale watching adventure begins with a narrated transfer from the pier to Auke Bay. There your captain and onboard naturalist will welcome you aboard the North Star, our state of the art 48-passenger jet boat custom designed for Juneau whale watching, with large windows and an outside viewing deck. On clear days you'll have a beautiful view of the Mendenhall Glacier as your sightseeing vessel departs the dock. Juneau has a healthy humpback whale population with some 65 whales returning each season to feed in the nutrient-rich waters, and your captain is excellent at locating them. In fact, whale sightings are guaranteed! If a whale is not spotted during your cruise we'll refund you $100 ($50 for children). Your captain will let you know when whales are spotted, but it's more likely you'll first be alerted by the collective chorus of "Oohhs!" and "Ahhs!" from your fellow adventurers as they witness a giant humpback suddenly breach. Binoculars are available for your use onboard. Venture out on the deck to enjoy a panoramic view of your surroundings or to snap a photo. Or, settle into your warm and comfortable interior surroundings to enjoy the scenery and wildlife sightings through the oversized windows. Your vessel returns to the Auke Bay dock where you will transfer back to the pier filled with lasting memories of your whale watching adventure and hopefully many pictures.

My family and I really enjoyed this tour the captain and naturalist did an amazing job!!. We saw at least 15 whalestales only and sea lions. Alaska is just so beautiful and touring around was just wonderful. The crew on the boat were just so accomadating. Our family would highly recommend this tour. We were on a cruise ship and with limited time off the ship, this tour really worked.

Even with all the rain it was a great experience. My one suggestion would be to pull closer to the dock for those that are handicapped or need more time to get to the boat. It was a long walk for my mom uses a cane, and I felt like we were holding up the rest of the group.

This excursion and boat is highly recommmended. The naturalist onboard is very knowledgeable and excited about the humpback whales. We had the unique experience of seeing multiple whales working together for food. It was an amazing excursion, and a once in a lifetime opportunity to watch multiple humpback whales move through the water, and even a rare double breach. The captain was knowledgeable about the area and even took us out a little further than usual to ensure we saw the whales. The boat was comfortable with both indoor areas with large windows and a back open-air deck. Beautiful scenery and backdrop with the Mendenhall Glacier and other snow-capped glaciers and mountains. Highly recommended!

Look at additional reviews on this date - there was a video of it. Simply amazing time! Money well spent - everyone had the best time. Don't bother with the cruise lines. Best deal - best experience!
