Full-day Costa Rica adventure tour
Hike around Arenal Volcano and swim beneath La Fortuna Waterfall
This is an exhausting but wonderful day. The hanging bridges are exhilarating and our guide Joshua was an expert at spotting tiny critters that we would have walked past without a clue. Very informative, funny and lots of fun. Were picked up promptly from our hotel, the driver was safe and respectful. Lunch was plentiful and delicious. Can't go wrong with this tour.
This tour was absolutely awesome! It was the highlight of our trip! Our tour guide, Roy, was absolutely spectacular. One of the best tour guides we’ve had and we travel A LOT. He was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic and ready to answer any of the questions we had. Roy completely made the experience unforgettable. The hanging bridges were beautiful and we saw so many animals! Out of nowhere, Roy would hear a sound and know something was there. He’d pull out the spotting scope and find the animal. We saw frogs, birds, monkeys, and more! The waterfall was beautiful! We were able to swim there because the weather was great! However the water was cold, but that is fine! The food we had after was absolutely amazing. Casado became our favorite meal during our time in Costa Rica. After we hiked the volcano which was awesome to see. This tour is amazing and I will take a tour with this company again when we return! THANK YOU ROY!
My boyfriend and I only had ONE full day in La Fortuna, so we knew we needed to maximize it. This tour was the absolute best thing for us to do.
I recommend doing this tour on your first full day in La Fortuna. The reason why I say that is because the tour guides will give you so much information about the area. You will also see where to park, and exactly which trails to take if you feel the urge to re-visit what you already saw.
The photo opportunities are endless. I wish I could add photos with this review, but there wasn't the opportunity to do so. I run an online business, so it's good for my business to have photos in exotic places. This was perfect.
I was concerned that the sites would be swarming with people. The truth was, each of these locations are so large that it doesn't matter if it's busy or not--you can always find a spot to venture off on your own. For me, this was great because I like quiet time to reflect in nature AND I didn't want people in the background of my photos :-) It wasn't too crowded at all--even though we went during the busiest time of the year, and during the busiest time of the day.
The tour guide told us about some other things to do in town, so my boyfriend and I checked those sites out the next day. We wound up having so much fun, and we're so grateful that our tour guide gave us suggestions. He was incredibly knowledgeable, fun, funny, and kind.
Mistico Park was pretty cool. There were exotic animals and scenic bridges. It was my boyfriend and my least favorite spot, but we would have checked it out on our own anyway (because it's so well-known). It was great to go to Mistico Park first thing in the morning (which the tour guide intentionally does) because it's always very foggy in the morning, so it was wise to kill time in Mistico Park while the sun had a chance to shine through for our time at the waterfall and volcano (although this IS a RAINforest, so no sunshine is guaranteed during your tour).
Nine hours seems like a long time to be on your feet, but you get plenty of breaks. You get picked up, drive to Mistico Park, get a break to change/go to the bathroom, then you drive to La Fortuna waterfall, get a change to change/go to the bathroom, and you finally go to the Arenal Volcano and get a chance to change/go to the bathroom before you hike.
Overall, I highly recommend this tour! Do it.
Just when you think this is a a few small hikes with a bird and a bat siting thrown in, BAM!...this is a sweaty, humid-drenched workout with animals and rainforest discoveries, hills, dripping forests, serious rock hiking, friendly cows, monkeys falling from trees, and a delicious lunch thrown in just for a few calories to survive til it all ends!...What a fantastic trio of explorations!
Great tour. Waterfall was rough so couldn't swim near it but still got to swim in the out parts. No rain except towards the end. The restaurant we ate at accommodated me being vegan. I will say you will get a workout especially at the waterfall. 500 step step steps to climb and I do mean climb!! Randall was amazing and knowledgeable. He made sure we saw every bit of what costa rica had to offer. Will definitely be back.
First let me say that the scenery and wildlife is beautiful having a professional tour guide is a must for a full experience of this country. Roy and Randall were our tour guides and were so knowledgeable about the animals, vegetation and history along every stop. It is obvious that they both love what they do and their enthusiasm makes the tours fabulous. We started at the hanging bridges, be prepared for a lot of walking and climbing steps, Roy spotted so many birds, insects and animals that we never would have noticed without him. Both guides bring along a telescope for you to see owls sleeping high up in the trees, families of animals walking along the rivers below the bridges. The photo ops are limitless.Next stop was the waterfall, again be prepared for many steps, over 500 down and 500 up! Lunch at a local restaurant was waiting for us on our arrive, traditional Costa Rican food of rice and beans, salad and a protein choice, very nice and simply prepared food.Off to the volcano for a hike up the volcanoes rock, a bit uneven stepping, but manageable. Randall explained the history of the eruption and mechanisms behind an active volcano, very knowledgeable. We had so many great photo opportunities along each stop of the tour. It’s a long physical day that is well worth the sore legs the next morning.P.S. - keep in mind you will need to be in good physical condition for these tours, we are a 56 year old couple and did just fine.
Randall made a rainy day very interesting and fun!! We saw lots of wild things in the jungle, had a great hike and swim in La Fortuna Falls, an excellent traditional Costa Rican lunch in town, and finished the day off with a volcanoe hike and history lesson.
I loved our tour guide Erica. She was very knowledgeable, energetic and fun. The waterfall is a must see! We only wish we would of had more time to enjoy the refreshing water. The hanging bridges was really cool but very touristy. I also expected a natural trail but the whole trail was made of concrete. Finally, the
Hike to the Volcano was very short. The view was beautiful but was hoping for something more challenging .Overall the tour was good and the food was GREAT!
This was one of the best tours we have been on. Our guide Erika was excellent - She went out of her way to make this a brilliant experience and was really knowledgeable about the local wildlife. She also made great recommendations about other things to do/places to visit in the local area. We really enjoyed the lunch and overall the tour was great value for money.
This tour was amazing. Prior to going ,after reading the reviews, I was concerned about the level of activity but it was paced perfectly. Our guide Erika was extremely knowledgeable. She pointed out so many animals at Mistico Park in the trees and hiding in the brush. She also taught us about all of the trees and how they grow. One of the participants did not feel well and the guide did everything under her power to make her more comfortable. She took us to a local restaurant and we had a delicious meal. I would definitely recommend this tour.
