Begin your day trip at your hotel in Ljubljana, where you'll meet your guide and take off in your comfortable coach. Your first stop will be at a Lipica stud farm to see the famous breed of Lipizzan horses.
Continue toward the fishing town of Izola, where you'll enjoy a brief sightseeing tour. Afterward, travel to the Istrian town of Piran and learn about its medieval architecture as you stroll through the old town with your guide.
Relax with some free time for lunch (own expense). Choose one of the area's traditional restaurants and sample local favorites, such as the cuttlefish risotto. Then opt for a refreshing dip in the Adriatic or spread out on the beach.
Head to the popular coastal resort of Portorož next, and top off the day with a visit to the Sečovlje Salina Natural Park (own expense) to see the salt flats. Then admire the Slovenian coastline on a relaxing ride back to your original departure point.
Really interesting day trip allowing ample time at Lipica Stud Farm - we had a carriage ride and a guided tour. We then had two and a half hours at Piran the pearl of the Slovenian Adriatic and totally idyllic which included a lunch break at our own expense. Finally a visit to the salt flats outside Portoroz which were also fascinating. Lana was our chauffeur guide for the day and there was just me and a friend on the trip. Make sure that you state that you want to visit all of the places listed on the itinerary and have the written details to hand. Otherwise the guide might try to short change you.
Very good tour. I am embarresed that I forgot my guides name, but she was very good. It was raining pretty hard and was supposed to rain most of the day. I asked my guide if we could shorten the 9.5 hour tour down to about 5-6 because of the weather. It ended up being a great tour that way for me spending most of the time on The Adriatic Coast.
great full day out of the city first visited the beautiful Lipizzan horses really enjoyable with them all up close then on to Piran for the salt farm and reserve which was really good and you can buy the salt there which is nothing you have tasted before then the afternoon in the very pretty town of Piran which is beautiful and due to our small group everything was so nice and leisurely the weather was lovely and hot and just had the most lovliest of afternoons exploring Piran would def. do this tour again myself when I go back to Ljubljana and our guide Larna she was just brilliant had such a laugh with her
Piran is an excellent town, beautiful scenary by the sea. We really enjoy it. The beach is a bit rocky for swimming.
The most unpleasant happening for this trip is the tourist guide that we got, she speaks stutter, broken English. The car was parked under the hot sun for hours the parkade actually has lots of underground parking spots.available,so that when we got into the car it was steaming hot,I can hardly breath so my husband opened the window to catch some breath but the lady said either to keep the air conditioner on or open the window but she was driving on freeway , so, my husband can only choose to close the window. We are just steaming in the car, the lady said she turned the A/C to 18 degrees BUT the fan was just MINIMUM, cool air did not go to the back at all, my God!!! she was coughing during the day too, I think if she is sick , she should stay home and not turn the fan to minimum and let her customers steaming like crazy , she is not customer orientated at all, can make the trip so much better if we have a different guide
We had a wonderful time on this tour and highly recommend it. Piran is very picturesque and there are plenty of lovely restaurants to choose from for lunch during your free time. Our guide Vladamir was excellent, very chatty and knowledgable. The walking tour was optional but i'm glad we chose to do it as he took us down backstreets and showed us sights we most likely would not have seen if we had gone off on our own straight away. The salt fields were also really interesting and all in all it was a great day out!
The coast is beautiful. Both towns are very small and there isn't very much to do...besides enjoy your surroundings. We went to the salt mines beforehand, which was interesting but seemed out of place on the tour. Our guide was nice but very difficult to understand...I only caught about 50 of what he was saying. Some people went swimming, the water is clear and pretty. Definitely a very relaxing day.
The tour guide was amazing but the location was average. If you have limited time in Slovenia, I would not worry about rushing to go to these locations as Slovenia has so many more beautiful places to visit.
