Good planning...
Taparshi_C, May 2023
Good planning Driver and Monica (our viator representative ) was very good and helpful. Tour time is perfectly executed
Great tour!
Angelique_S, May 2023
Great tour! Beautiful castles and the drive was awesome! Tour guide and driver were great and informative.
Not what we thought it would be
Rachel_S, May 2023
The tour is really only for the transportation to and from the castles. Everything else is on your own. There was very little history or background info provided by the "guide," who basically served as a chaperone. It was quite disappointing that the timing of the Neuschwanstein tour left ZERO time to actually explore the grounds of the castle after the (brief and sub-par) audio tour. In fact, we were running to catch the bus afterwards. Given that the only way to see around the castle and view some of the other rooms/video of the construction was by purchasing a ticket, it was a shame that the guide booked our timed tickets so late in the day (4:15pm tour, duration of the tour was 25 minutes, 20 minutes back down the hill, had to be on the bus at 5:15pm). My recommendation to the tour company would be to keep the departure time the same, shorten the length of time at Linderhof by 20 minutes, and schedule the timed Neuschwanstein tour for no later than 3pm.
Response from Host, May 2023
We can't choose the entrance times in the castles, they are given to us according to availability. The tour guide only collects the reserved tickets, but has (just like us as tour operator) no influence on the time!!! The time (about 2.5 hours) between arrival in Hohenschwangau and castle tour is there to explore the area, go to Marienbrücke and eat. We have no influence on the duration and quality of the tours in the castles!
Whirlwind of Beauty at Neuschwanstein Castle
Nada_V, May 2023
My recent trip to Neuschwanstein Castle was, in short, a delightful yet brisk journey into the pages of a fairytale. The majestic architecture, nestled among the rolling hills of Hohenschwangau, Germany, was a sight that I had long awaited to behold. As soon as I set foot on the castle grounds, I was completely entranced by the grandeur and beauty of King Ludwig II's dream come to life. The steep cliffs, verdant forests, and placid lakes added a natural frame to the stunning man-made edifice. The castle is a sight to behold, with its dreamy spires reaching towards the sky, its extravagant rooms, and its ornate designs, which had me continually gasping in wonder. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and affable, bringing to life the stories and history of the castle with such fervor and enthusiasm that I felt transported back to the 19th century. I particularly enjoyed learning about the intriguing life of King Ludwig II, whose eccentricity and passion gave birth to this architectural marvel. However, my main critique for the tour would be the brevity of our time inside the magnificent castle. The tour seemed to flash by in the blink of an eye, not offering enough time to fully appreciate the intricacies of the castle's interior and its wealth of history. There were times I yearned to linger a while longer in a room or to pause and appreciate the view from one of the many high windows, but the pace of the tour required us to keep moving. That said, I understand the limitations in terms of time and crowd management in such a high-demand destination. However, I strongly feel that an additional 30 minutes to an hour would vastly improve the overall experience, allowing visitors to fully absorb the regal ambience of Neuschwanstein Castle. In conclusion, I would recommend this tour to anyone who wishes to behold the grandeur of Neuschwanstein Castle. Just keep in mind that it is a fast-paced tour, so be prepared to take in as much as you can in a short amount of time. Despite its brevity, the experience of seeing the castle up close and personal, and understanding its historical context, was undeniably worth it. This tour is a whirlwind that will whisk you away into a dreamy fairytale, leaving you with memories that you'll cherish forever.
Would NOT Recommend
Daniel_Y, May 2023
Unfortunately, we would not recommend this excursion. There are multiple reasons for this: Firstly, the cost (and additional costs) are questionable. On top of the $130 we paid (for two people) for this tour, entries into the castles are not included. This is mentioned in the listing so there's no surprise there. However, it's 30 euros a person - cash only - collected by the guide when you board the bus. When you check each castles' website, Neuschwanstein is 15 euros (plus 2.50 booking fee so 17.50) and Linderhof says 10 euros. It's likely the company gets an additional discount since it's a large tour group as well, but there's at least a 2.50 euro discrepancy (per person, there was about 40 people on this tour). I'm not sure if it goes to cover taxes or some other unknown fee, but it'd be helpful for this to be communicated upfront. There are other possible miscellaneous charges throughout the day (bus ride up to Neuschwanstein, ponchos, drinks, etc) too, so don't mistake that your booking comes with anything besides the actual bus ride itself (no wifi on the bus, as well). Secondly, the tour guide never counted the group so people were being missed repeatedly. A man stepped off the bus (after first physically and verbally checking with the guide) in the morning to get the cash for castle admission. The bus legitimately began driving before his group stopped the tour guide/driver for the man to return onto the bus. Another example is that FOUR people almost missed the scheduled tour at Linderhof because everyone was lined up but again, the guide didn't count and everyone was being ushered in without the full group being present. While there is certainly accountability on each individual, there is equal responsibility on the guide's part to make sure the entire group is present. Lastly, the tour guide was terrible with time management and the bus was always leaving later than the set time as a result. For example, on paper it'll take 40 minutes to hike up the mountain to reach Neuschwanstein and about 20-30 minutes to hike back down. There are buses that are an additional cost and leave about every 10 minutes. The tour group arrived around 2pm and the scheduled tour was for 4:10pm - the tour itself is about 30-40 minutes and she asked for everyone to return by 5pm. How are people to get through the tour and down the mountain to make it by 5pm? It was unrealistic to expect that and there were people from our group basically running down the mountain after the tour (unsafe and not enjoyable). It felt like very poor time management to give 2 hours for lunch and expect people to rush right after the tour. Of all the bus tours we've done, this was one we enjoyed the least due to the expected timelines. We made it back to Munich around 7pm (which we were expecting 7:30pm or 8pm) so it felt like the whole time the tour guide was rushing everyone throughout the day just to get home earlier rather than make the most of our time. The castles themselves were incredibly beautiful and the only worthwhile aspects of the day. Each castle has their own tour guide so it is not necessary to book this excursion. Find alternative transportation and book admission/tours yourself with the castle - it'll be a better and cheaper experience!
Response from Host, May 2023
We are very sorry that you would not recommend the tour! The costs are clearly written in the tour description and are therefore no surprise. That there may be additional costs is possible on any tour. You don't have to buy a poncho if you have an umbrella with you, you can bring your own drinks and that transportation up to the castle costs money is also in the tour description, because that is offered by completely independent companies! If you walk, it costs nothing. Now if you also bring your own food, apart from the castle entrance fees, you won't need an Euro!!! Getting to the tours on time is everyone's responsibility! The tour guides see a completely new group every day. It is very difficult to quickly remember all the faces that belong in the group! Regarding time management: so far the guests have always appreciated that they had enough time to have lunch, go to the Marienbrücke and then come to the castle entrance. We do not set the time for the castle entrance, we have to take what we are allotted by the castle! Since it is not always the same time, and also the traffic on the way back varies, the return to Munich varies between 19:00 and 19:45. Thus, the tour as described lasts about 10.5 hours, with a departure at 9 am!
Nice tour
Shuk_H, May 2023
It is a very nice trip to visit the 2 castle lot of things to see. Stunning view and the castle is very extragalactic and must see in life We expected to hear more information about the king story from the tour guard but not much
Great way to see two castles in one day!
Becca_B, May 2023

Nice full day tour
Christopher_C, May 2023
It was a wonderful experience, the tour group was fairly small and the tour was well organized. Our guide gave a good amount of background, history and information and she was thorough.
Very long day most time spent on bus
Dina_J, May 2023
Very long day and the tours are rushed. You don’t get to see much. Neuschwanstein castle are doing renovations so you dont get to see much
Response from Host, May 2023
Glad you had the time to write a review! Very sorry that you have not evaluated our tour (driver, guide, implementation, organization,...), but only the tours in the castles. We are not responsible for renovation work and the implementation of the tours in the castles and have no influence!
Great guided tour I wouldn’t want to attempt solo
Darren_R, May 2023
Great trip despite the poor weather. Was a tight schedule though, no issue for us but may be for others. Out Tour guide ensured we knew step by step where to go and when to meet back. Wouldn’t want to attempt this on my own.
I am totally not happy about this experience with Viator or the so call guide was not professional or informative.
Dianne_F, May 2023
Linderhof Castle and surrounding areas were great. The driver was great. BUT have limited walking distances and ordering from you before leaving Australia l was not informed about the long uphill climb and the amount of stairs to see inside the castle. Before buying the 2 castle tickets from your hostess on the bus l was inquiring about the bus taking us to the castle and was told not to worry that a smaller bus would be available to take us up so brought tickets. Once there we were told that we would have to pay for the local bus to take us 1/2 way up. Out time to go into the castle was 4.10 and we had to be back onboard the bus for return at 5.15 . Poring rain by now , no one was happy. Impossible to bus up , see through castle, take photos, return back down by another bus and be ready to go back by 5.30 at latest. I got up there and realised that it was impossible so came back down. Bus left at 6.20.
Response from Host, May 2023
Hello, nice that you rate Linderhof castle and driver positively! Regarding the route to the castle Neuschwanstein you can read in the "Additional Information" that the small shuttle bus that makes the way up runs for an extra fee. You have several hours in Hohenschwangau, so before you visit the castle, you can take photos and enjoy the view. The fact that the bus could not leave until after 6 pm is not our responsibility. It is rather positive that we wait for our guests until everyone is there!

Despite the bad weather, we had access to two castles the same day and learned so much about Munich, Baviera and their kings. The guide Monica has wide culture and spoke may languages to help us. During the trip we saw the Bavaria landscape and curious goes with many facade pantings. The coach was comfortable .

Wonderful trip
Mark_S, May 2023
The guide was soft spoken & not attend to the group as a whole. The castle was wonderful but travel time suggested was inaccurate
Response from Host, May 2023
Thank you for your review. The tour always starts at 9am and ends between 7pm and 7:30pm. This depends on whether all guests get back to the tour bus from Neuschwanstein Castle on time and on the traffic on the way back. However, the tour always lasts about 10.5 hours as indicated.
An excellent tour of Ludwig’s castles.
Bill_B, May 2023
Christine (and driver Mentor) provided outstanding guidance during the tour. Her knowledge of the historical and geographic aspects of King Ludwig II was exceptional. She provided valuable insight into the elements of the tour. The bus was comfortable and driven expertly and safely. Christine was easily approachable and answered questions nicely.
Nice, But.
Ronald_N, May 2023
I’m glad my wife and I were able to see both castles. They are beautiful and our tour guide Christine did a fantastic job. The bus trip up to see the castles and seeing the beautiful towns and countryside of Germany was great. Now the downside. There is a lot of walking and climbing up the castles. We’re both in our early 70’s and it was a tough go.

A Great Walk
AJ_B, May 2023
We enjoyed walking around the castles. There was plenty to see and do. In addition, the weather was just right.
Monica was an excellent...
Linda_K, May 2023
Monica was an excellent tour guide. Could have used an earlier entrance time to Neuschwanstein as we had to run out if there to eat back in time.
Comfortable and Convenient
Andrea_T, May 2023
The bus was comfortable and our tour guide Annette (sorry if I have her name wrong), was very kind and helpful. We were traveling with two young children (21 months and 4) and she made sure we had seats together. The tours at the castles themselves had some rooms closed for renovations and were a little rushed, but those tours are run by the palaces, not this tour. We had enough time to stop for extremely delicious ice cream. Our family had a great time.
Best of Bavaria
Luis_F, May 2023
