3-hour evening speakeasy tour of Manhattan's East Village
Walk to four secret bars popular during Prohibition
Learn from a knowledgeable guide about the history of New York City's off-the-radar drinking establishments
When the US Congress passed the 18th amendment banning the production and sale of liquor in 1919, many New Yorkers defied Prohibition by frequenting illegal, secret bars known as speakeasies. Many of these hidden watering holes have been remarkably preserved and still sling cocktails to modern-day city slickers. Meet your knowledgeable guide in Manhattan’s East Village and begin your 3-hour walking tour at McSorley's Old Ale House. The oldest Irish tavern in New York, McSorley’s dates back to the mid-19th century and held onto its old-fashioned roots for so long that it did not admit female patrons until forced to do so by court order in 1970. Enjoy a pub snack and mug of ale here among the timeworn walls and century-old memorabilia. Continue on to three other historic watering holes that are known to have been speakeasies during the 1920s. The exact itinerary will vary by day, but your guide will lead you to an insider’s selection of these hard-to-find spots, many accessed through secret, unmarked entrances or stairways. Soak up the nostalgic, clandestine atmosphere and enjoy a classic drink at each bar.

What an excellent unusual experience...

What an excellent unusual experience. We had a fantastic time. Highly recommended.
Our guide was very knowledgeable. However, we could not get into one of the places because of a private party. Our guide was not aware of the party. The drinks were good, but the snacks left much to be desired. The snack consisted of a sleeve of saltines with some cheese squares.
nothing was organized! We come to the first bar which is the most iconic one in nyc. Because the tour did not have a deal with the place we end up not getting in. We got in to the next bars but it was almost impossible to fit in there because we were 40 people. And the snacks is ONE macaroon.
