Pioneer Courthouse Square, located in the heart of Downtown Portland, is a public space hosting more than 300 programmed events each year. With more than 26,000 people visiting the Square each day, it is the single most visited site in the city. The Square’s features include the Waterfall Fountain, built of granite; sixteen columns with classical pillars topped with carved yellow roses on which crawl pink-and-green spotted bugs; and two brick amphitheaters which provide seats for events.
Built in 1914, Pittock Mansion tells the story of Portland’s transformation from pioneer town to modern, industrialized city through the history and legacy of one its most influential families, the Pittocks. Saved from demolition by dedicated citizens in 1964, the Mansion and surrounding estate was purchased by the City of Portland and opened to the public as a historic house museum.
One of the city’s signature landmarks, located in beautiful Washington Park, Portland’s largest official rose garden is home to more than 10,000 roses including 650+ rose varieties. From May through October, you can stroll amongst the lovely blooms, breathe in the delightful smells, and enjoy the spectacular views of downtown and Mount Hood.
Loading docks and cobblestone streets hint at this former warehouse district’s past, while stylish bars and gleaming lofts point toward the future. The Pearl District was formerly occupied by warehouses, light industry, and railroad classification yards and now noted for its art galleries, restaurants, upscale businesses, and high-rise residences along with lofts that were converted from warehouses.
The neighborhood surrounding stylish Northwest 23rd Avenue offers an abundance of terrific shopping and choice eats. In the Northwest neighborhood (also known as Nob Hill or the Alphabet District), century-old Victorian and Craftsman-style storefronts housing unique boutiques stand alongside national retailers, interspersed with coffee shops and on-trend restaurants and bars. In short, it’s a shopper’s paradise.
Lan Su Chinese Garden is one of Portland's greatest treasures. Built by Chinese artisans from our sister city Suzhou (home of China's famous ancient gardens), it's among the most authentic Chinese gardens outside of China. Much more than just a beautiful garden, Lan Su is a creative wonder—a powerfully inspiring experience based on a 2,000-year-old Chinese tradition that melds art, architecture, design and nature in perfect harmony.
Once inside the garden's walls, you'll feel as if you've traveled through time to another era in a faraway world. Lan Su is a window into Chinese culture, history and way of thinking. Ever changing, Lan Su always has something new to offer—by the minute, by the hour, and with the seasons. Enter the wonderland.
Well organized, Evan had a very good knowledge base. Made everyone feel good and respected. Safety conscious, knew where to go and park. Hope to return to that Arboretum. Very good communicator, fun with enough humor tucked away. Brush up on some church knowledge. There were some amazing architectual aspects and very interesting cut glass. Thanks from MN couple
Thank you Gunner for a marvellous tour. Even though the other guests cancelled, Gunner decided to take me around beautiful Portland. He took me to the chinese gardens and Pitlock mansion as both were on the tour. Then on hearing that we are coming to live here for six months, Gunner drove me around to give me a feel for the city. This was so worthwhile, especially as the rain was quite heavy! He gave me lots of information and was so knowledgeable about Portland. Thank you. And how beautiful is the mansion looking for Christmas?
We certainly enjoyed this city tour! The van was very comfortable, and the timing between exiting for excursions to the Chinese Garden and Pittock Mansion was perfect. So much beauty to take in, and Phil did an excellent job pointing out things we might have missed! Great job, Phil!
Adam made me feel as if I was part of his family. He is very inclusive and genuinely appears to care about the experience of his guests. His humor along the way and his great knowledge of Portland made it for an AMAZING experience. I appreciate him asking how to pronounce my name and taking the time to actually say it correctly throughout the time. He took us to some amazing places with great photo opportunities. Thank You Adam!
This was our first time in Portland so we wanted to make the best use of our time and take in as much as possible. We thought a tour might give us that. I'm sure glad we did! Our tour guide was awesome. He was so knowledgeable about the city and its history and made the tour fun. I felt the tour itself covered a good amount. My favorite was Pittock Mansion and being able to see the views of the city from up high. I learned tid bits about the city that I probably never would have otherwise. I highly recommend this tour to anyone in the area!
We just went on the tour yesterday. It was great! Our tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly and fun. The Pittock Mansion was my fave. The roses at the Rose Test Garden weren’t in full bloom, understandable given the season. I’d recommend this if you are only in town for the weekend.
I’ve never been to Portland before and this was a great way to see the city. Also went to the Rose Garden and Chinese gardens and mansion. Would never have seen these attractions on my own. Our tour guide, Heather, was very knowledgeable.
Carrie was so kind. Part of our group arrived late and she rearranged our tour so they could be included. She made it so easy for everyone that the others on the tour didn't seem to feel cheated and my friends were so appreciative. Carrie was also verry knowledable about Portland. Thanks Carrie!!
