Head to Fajardo’s Marina Puerto Chico to begin your mini-speedboat adventure. Two different departure options, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, are available so pre-arrange your preferred time before setting out. Before climbing aboard your mini-speedboat you’ll also participate in a full safety orientation with the staff.
When the group is ready, motor out of the marina and proceed along the bluffs of Puerto Rico’s “Las Cabezas de San Juan” nature reserve. Make sure to enjoy the beautiful views of nearby mountains, the lush “El Yunque” rainforest, local mangrove forests, and the scenic 130-year-old Fajardo lighthouse.
Your first destination stop of the day is the scenic Icacos Cay, forming one link in an extended island chain that forms the Cordillera Cays Nature Reserve. Upon arrival at the Cay, grab some snorkeling gear and dive below the surface to explore the wondrous collection of colorful reef fish that call this underwater sanctuary home.
After about an hour of time for snorkeling in Icacos, you’ll proceed on to “Isla de Palominitos” depending on the current wind and water conditions. This gem of a tropical island offers turquoise-colored waters and more coral reefs teeming with marine life. You might even recognize the setting from its starring role in the film “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.” Feel free to nap and sunbathe on the island’s sugar-sand beaches, learn about the area from your guide, or join in more snorkeling time.
Leaving Isla de Palominitos behind, climb back aboard your mini-speedboat as you motor back toward the mainland, arriving back in Fajardo’s Marina Puerto Chico.
