The natural phenomenon occurs when particles in the Earth’s atmosphere collide, producing vivid colors in the sky. Learn all about the Northern Lights from your guide, and separate scientific facts from fictional myth. Get out on deck to stargaze outdoors, or hunker down in the viewing area with a hot drink. Refreshments are available to purchase, if you wish. After 2.5 hours on the water, return to the start point and finish with a hotel drop-off (if option selected).
Our Iceland trip was at the very end of aurora season, so we were not sure we'd get to see the lights. We took the cruise the first night we arrived in Iceland (Monday), but had no success seeing the lights. I was happy to know that we were allowed to come back other nights to try again. On Friday we went back again, and soon after leaving the harbor, the captain told us to look ahead, and there we could see the lights! It was a very exciting moment. By heading away from the city lights out into the sea, it gives you a very clear view. And you can either stand outside on the deck, or stay out of the wind inside the boat. Loved it.
Would defo recommend. We went the first night but couldn't see the lights, so you get to come back as often as necessary to catch a glimpse. Some great photos on board when we did see them the second night. Staff very friendly and helpful with camera settings.
We didn’t get to see the lights which was disappointing, but the tour guides tried their best to keep our hopes up.
We were offered a complementary trip to go bag which was nice, but we decided to go whale watching instead.
Had an amazing view of the northern lights! The tour guide also was informative and engaging. It was really fun. I usually eschew guided tours because I prefer having the flexibility to explore but this is a must if in Reykjavik. The one thing I would recommend is getting to the boat really, really early - all of the warm suits were long gone by the time we boarded and we were early as it is.
Yes this was a good way to see the lights. We stayed inside until Tina told everyone to come. Simply enjoyed looking, then back inside for a warm up and back out when lights were brighter. The cruise was cancelled twice but on the third night we had Lights. Good pictures were taken by the crew were emailed to us. Very happy we took this cruise.
