Begin with a pickup from your hotel or chosen location in the Reykjavik area at the recommended time of just before 9pm. Alternatively, choose another departure time according to your preferences.
If weather conditions are favorable for seeing the Northern Lights, settle inside your private, air-conditioned vehicle and head out of the city, journeying into Iceland’s interior away from any urban light pollution.
Then, with your guide, scan the dark skies for the lights. Travel to well-known viewing spots with far horizons, and hop outside to either await their appearance, or gain fabulous views of the colorful displays.
As you wait, watch, and travel between the sites, listen as your guide reveals the fascinating science and stories behind the lights, also known as the aurora borealis. Hear how the lights are created when solar wind particles collide with the Earth’s atmosphere, and appear usually as pale green or pink.
With luck, enjoy a sighting of the spectacular natural show, either in the form of clouds of light, slow-moving curtains, or shooting rays, and capture photos to keep as mementoes. Although guests don’t see the lights on every trip, these tours have an over 90% success rate for sightings.
After about five hours, return to Reykjavik and then finish your tour with a hotel drop-off.
Please note: Your supplier will monitor the weather during your selected day, and confirm with you by 6pm if conditions are favorable for seeing the Northern Lights. If not, your tour will be canceled and you can opt to reschedule or receive a refund. It’s therefore advisable to book your tour for the start of your stay in Iceland to extend the option of taking tours on subsequent days. If conditions are not favourable on any day of your stay here, you will receive a full refund.
