Before you start pedaling, check out the big antique carousel nearby and learn some curious anecdotes about the city, such as its connection to Japan and the origin of all of those tiny trees.

Get cruising along the bidegorri bike path that hugs La Concha Beach, and admire the stately palace of Queen Maria Cristina en route to Ondarreta Beach — a favorite sandy spot for locals. Get another glimpse of San Sebastián’s gorgeous shoreline at Zurriola surf beach in the Gros district, and then check out the bustling activity of the port, one of the best places in town for a pintxo bar crawl. We have done city bike tours in Paris, Rome, and Barcelona and have found them to be great introductions to a city. We have done walking tours as well but find that bike tours cover so much more in the same amount of time.

So based on our past experiences, my husband and I looked forward to the tour I booked through Viator with Basque by Bike. The tour ended up exceeding our expectationsit was the best of the city bike tours weve done, and we liked the other ones very much!

Our tour guide, Tomasz, was a great guide. He is the owner of the company, speaks excellent English, has a great sense of humor, and is very knowledgeable about the city. There were only two others in our group that day. The 10-speed bikes were in excellent condition, with baskets to hold personal belongings. We also stored some at his office by the harbor, the meeting point. Tomasz was very safety conscious as well.

San Sebastian is a bike-friendly city, so we were on bike paths almost the entire tour. The city is very flat, making pedaling easy. The only hill we climbed was Mount Urgull, using a lift to get to the starting point. After that, it was mostly flat or downhill. Besides covering the typical tourist areas, the tour also included residential areas as well, so you really had a sense of the city beyond what tourists usually see. We learned a lot a about the history of San Sebastian along the way, and Tomasz was able to answer any question that came up.

I didnt want this tour to end. Book this tripyou wont be disappointed.
