Board your bus in the center of Sorrento at 8am, and travel inland to the ancient city of Pompeii. After an hour on the road, you’ll hop out to meet your guide by the entrance to the UNESCO-listed archaeological digs.
Blanketed by volcanic ash for centuries, ancient Pompeii was remarkably well preserved when it was discovered, and it has kept archaeologists and visitors enthralled ever since. During your 2-hour tour, you’ll learn about the Mt. Vesuvius eruption of AD 79, which buried the town, and see the ruins that hark back to ancient times.
Explore the alleyways of the old commercial center, and stand before the remains of monuments such as the Temple of Jovis, the Macellum (market), and the public baths.
After your Pompeii tour, enjoy some free time for lunch at your own expense. Then return to your bus for the journey to Herculaneum, another city that was buried after the AD 79 eruption.
Many believe that the Herculaneum ruins are better preserved than those at Pompeii, as the town was encased in mud and lava. Wander amid the ruins on an hour-long tour, then take some free time to explore at your leisure. Highlights include some intricate mosaics, as well as a gymnasium and residential houses.
Meet back at your bus, then travel back to Sorrento. Finish with a drop-off at the start point around 5pm.
