Japanese Taiko Drum Lesson in Tokyo

Master Yukihito Miyauchi not only taught the class how to drum but also provided an enlightening insight into the world of Noh and Kabuki theatre, especially the instruments used during the performances. It made my trip to Tokyo for the first time truly memorable and has inspired me to want to take up more taiko drum lessons back home.

This is an amazing tour from start to finish - we were introduced to a very well regarded Taiko master who was in the middle of teaching his previous class at the time. He introduced us with a spectacular performance from his students who were attending their class that day, and it was a thrill to watch them perform with such vigour and energy in their movements. When it came to our turn, he was very knowledgeable about Taiko as a form of art and ceremony, and he taught us several rhythms that resonated like thunder on the taiko drum it was also a genuine workout, striking the drums with increasing intensity and working up a sweat! Our teacher was blessed with a strong devotion to the practice of the Taiko drums, and even several other instruments as well, but the taiko experience was the true star of this tour, as well as our teacher. I would thoroughly recommend this experience to anyone who would like to experience the intensity of the Taiko drum!
