For 7:10am, arrive at Mode Gakuen Cocoon Tower near Shinjuku station and board a climate-controlled vehicle destined for the Nagano prefecture. Following a 3.5-hour drive, you’ll arrive at the foot of the mountainous monkey park and enjoy a Japanese lunch featuring beef sukiyaki (hot pot). Vegetarian options are also available.
Depending on the season, either make the remaining journey to Jogokudani Monkey Park by bus or in winter, take a relaxing 40-minute walk to the entrance. Once inside, you’ll see red-faced Japanese macaques bathing in steaming hot springs in order to stay warm in the freezing temperatures.
Capture photographs and explore the snow-smothered area, being cautious not to impinge on the monkey’s territoy, before returning to the bus for the 3.5-hour journey back to Shinjuku, where you’ll arrive at around 7am.
