Overview

Learn about the cuisine and food culture of Bali during a hands-on cooking class in Ubud. Start with a visit to the morning market (Tuesdays and Thursdays only), then help to prepare a variety of dishes under the tutelage of an experienced chef. Using recipes handed down through the generations, you'll learn about authentic Balinese culture, try traditional preparation techniques, sample essential spices and feast on your creations. This small-group tour has a maximum of 18 participants, which allows for a customized experience with fellow food lovers.

At the designated time, be ready for hotel pickup and transfer to the Casa Luna Cooking School in Ubud, located on the elegant grounds of a local hotel. Enjoy a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the class, which takes place in a fully-equipped kitchen that overlooks a lush tropical garden.

Your 3.5-hour cooking class starts with an introduction to your chef-instructor, who provides you with an apron and cooking station. Learn about the key ingredients and spices of Balinese cuisine, then follow along as your chef shows you each step in the recipes that you prepare for the class.

As you prepare delectable dishes for your lunch (see sample menu under Itinerary), you discover the secrets to making authentic Balinese food. Your instructor shares insights about the ceremonial and cultural significance of food in Balinese society, giving you a fresh perspective on Balinese life, beliefs and culture.

For the grand finale, sit down with your small group to enjoy your meal together, sipping a glass or two of homemade hibiscus tea or local rice wine to accompany your feast. After a magnificent meal, your cooking class ends with return transfer to your hotel.

Please note: If you take the class on Tuesday or Thursday, meet at Casa Luna Restaurant for a short walk to the village market before beginning your cooking class.
