African Heritage Tour: Little Africa in Rio de Janeiro

African Heritage Tour: Little Africa in Rio de Janeiro

star-5
8
The Little Africa Cultural Tour highlights places in the history of Black people in Rio de Janeiro. The Route is one of the places of memory of the African Diaspora in the World, part of the Slave Route, a UNESCO world project. It is a route of sensitive memory that adds to the awareness and struggle of humanity against racism in the world. The highlight of the visit takes place in the Afrocentric interpretation and narrative of one of the largest slave ports in the world - Valongo Wharf -, elevated to a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2017. Through this pier, more than 1 million enslaved Africans entered the largest slave complex in the Americas. It is a walk through the history, pain, struggle and resistance of a people who, despite slavery, reinvented themselves in a new world, influencing the foundations and civilizing values of a nation, in addition to contributing to the development of the economy, society, national identity and Brazilian culture in an expressive and significant way in the country.

XINGÓ CANON a Surreal Beauty

star-5

After arriving at Karrancas Bar and Restaurant we will be in front of the beautiful waters of the São Francisco River (old man), the experience lasts an average of 1 hour. We will have a place for bathing in a specific place, where we can, in another section, see the paradise of the cut, on the way; several statues of San Francisco, the patron saint of the river, protect the place. But what most impacts the place is the reflection of the sun in the incredibly green waters! Charming!

Hiking in Little Africa

Hiking in Little Africa

star-4.5
6
In this tour you will get to know some of the places of the city of Rio de Janeiro called "Little Africa" by artist and sambista Heitor dos Prazeres in the early twentieth century. These sites are part of the historical and archaeological circuit of celebration and awareness of the African heritage of blacks in Brazil.  "Little Africa" has come to identify a significant part of the city's waterfront, where African presence and black cultural heritage have forever marked the history, not just of Rio de Janeiro but throughout Brazil.  Often blacks from all over the country were welcomed there, usually by "Aunt Ciata" who was a very important figure for this whole historical process. It is through this walk through "Little Africa" you will also get to know the Cultural Center "Tia Ciata", Museum of New Blacks, Cais do Valongo, hanging garden and we will finish in Pedra do Sal where besides the historical collection also has great bars and restaurants of typical Afro-Brazilian foods.

Salvador Lower City tour - half a day to experience a different Salvador.

Salvador Lower City tour - half a day to experience a different Salvador.

star-3
2
On this tour, you will get a different view of the Salvador by visiting its Lower City and the peninsula of Itapagipe. It's completely surrounded by the calm waters of the bay, an oasis of peace at only 8 km from the busy harbor area and my favorite part of the city where I lived for more than 20 years. I recommend a visit to the biggest and swarming open market of the city, called São Joaquim to dive into the daily live and habits of the locals and discover some secrets of the Candomblé, the African religion. We visit neighborhoods like Ribeira, with fantastic views on the Bay of All Saints and its small marinas and the possibility to taste the best ice cream of the city! Then the famous church of Nosso Senhor do Bonfim, a unique place for pilgrimage where you can still feel the syncretism between Catholicism and Candomblé. Finally the Fort of Monte Serrat and Ponta de Humaitá, the most romantic spot in Salvador with the possibility to see one of the most wonderful sunsets of Brazil!
