In recent years, Soi Sim has become known as a center for ecotourism, with its endemic plants and two mountain peaks drawing numerous hikers. Wooden lodges provide unique waterfront accommodation, and unspoiled beaches offer ample opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports. Few day cruises stop at the island, so if you want to visit, you’ll likely have to do so as part of an overnight or 3-day cruise. Some cruises sail past the island, while others stop for time to swim and relax on the beach or climb to the top for panoramic views over Halong Bay. When to Get There
The best time to enjoy Soi Sim Island (as well as the other sights of Halong Bay) is during the shoulder season (March to May and September to November), when temperatures are cool and comfortable and fewer visitors are cruising.
Sim Fruit
The sim trees that give this island its name produce an edible and sweet fruit used to make pies, jams, and a Vietnamese wine called ruou sim. You’ll find it most frequently on the island of Phu Quoc.
