While your ship is docked in Juneau, enjoy yourself on a 2-hour whale-watching cruise from Auke Bay. Keep your camera out to catch killer shots of whales on the hunt, humpbacks breaching into the air and Stellar sea lions soaking up the sun. While the onboard naturalist guide shares commentary on the wildlife you see, nosh on snacks like fresh Alaska salmon on bagels, along with hot chocolate and coffee.
  • A scenic 2-hour whale-watching tour from Juneau
  • Learn about humpbacks, killer whales, bald eagles and sea lions from an onboard naturalist
  • Spot Alaskan wildlife from the comfort of your boat
  • Enjoy a local snack of wild Alaskan salmon and refreshments
  • Covered by Viator’s worry-free policy: guaranteed on-time return to your ship
Take advantage of your next port stop in Juneau and embark on a 2-hour whale-watching cruise. Board a bus to Auke Bay from the Mt Roberts Tramway. Upon arrival at the bay, step aboard a jet boat that accommodates a max of 30 passengers, meaning you’ll have space to enjoy unobstructed views. Thirsty or hungry? Soft drinks, water, hot chocolate and coffee are available, as well as snacks including locally caught Alaskan salmon spread on bagels.

Pick up some binoculars (provided), as your captain navigates the boat into Saginaw Channel, Stephens Passage, Favorite Channel and Lynn Canal. Thanks to the growing whale population in Juneau, rest assured you’ll see whales in these waters. Keep your eyes peeled for breaching whales, females with their young and pods on the search for prey. Your naturalist guide on board shares facts about the local geology and the wildlife you see, including bald eagles and seal lions.

At the end of the cruise, transport takes you back to the Mt Roberts Tramway.

We went out in a light rain. Crew was excellent in spotting humpbacks and staying long enough for us to take great pictures.

Great guys and excellent whale watching. In a few short minutes we were in the middle of bubble net feeding and saw at least 14 whales this day.

They advertised that it was minimal walking it was not. The Bus had to park approx. 4 blocks from the gangway. Once we got to the gangway which was extremely steep, we had to walk another 3 block to the boat.then of course back to the bus My husband and I, both, has walking problems. We held up the whale watching. The crew and other passengers took everything with a grain of salt but it was extremely painful for us. The bus driver was very informative about the area and the sights the boat crew as very professional. I was a little disappointed that we only saw a few whale sprays and dorsal fins.

The two naturalists on board were very informative. At times, it can be hard to hear when speeding across the water, but ask them to repeat it and they will do so. They are also very available to answer any question and never feel like any question is a dumb question. As with any whale watching, there is no guarantee of seeing whales, but we did see 6 whales and 1 orca called Old Jack. We never saw them breach, but they did break the water and we saw them shoot water out several times. The guides know the whales by name. I recommend the boat -- nice seating indoors with large windows, a restroom, snacks salmon on bagels, hot chocolate, coffee, soda and two outdoor viewing areas: main level in back of boat and on top which can hold 12 people at a time. If it's raining, you will want rain gear. If it's not, you may wish to have a good windbreaker.

My family including my 12-year old son highly recommend this tour. It started out as a grey and drizzly day but that didnt stop us from seeing 11 whales. It cleared up and we got even better pictures. Our captain was fantastic and was able to continually find spots where the whales were coming up out of the water. I managed to get 2 tail pics. I would recommend that if you have a Go-Pro that you use it. My husband wore ours the entire time and everything he saw, we have captured.

Great experience. We saw lots of whales Captain had an instinct for being in the right place. What's more, the cost was around half the cost of the overpriced ship tour that couldn't have been better.

The whale watching excursion was wonderful! I learn some interesting information from our guide as we searched for the whales. Our driver knew just where to go to find the feeding whales. What a spectacular sight to see a whale come up out of the water and then dive back down! Loved the whole adventure!
