Overview

Whale watching and visiting the Mendenhall Glacier are two of the most popular activities around Juneau. Check them both off your list on this half-day combo tour that includes flexible departure times and round-trip transportation from Mt. Roberts Tramway, making it ideal for a shore excursion or quick trip.
  • Whale watching and Mendenhall Glacier combo tour
  • Flexible morning tour durations ideal for timed shore excursions
  • Multiple departures throughout the day to best suit your schedule
  • Round-trip transportation from Mt. Roberts Tramway included
  • Light snacks and water included
  • Entrance to Mendenhall Visitor Center included
Make your way to the Mt. Roberts Tramway by your selected check-in time. Meet your guide for an informative ride through Juneau en route to the boat harbor, where you will board a 24- or 49-passenger whale-watching boat, complete with a heated cabin, spacious deck, and wide windows well suited for wildlife watching.

With the help of your guide, spotting whales during your cruise is a breeze. The captain will announce a sighting and slow the boat so you can get that perfect photo from the deck, and an on-board naturalist can provide additional information and answer any of your questions about Alaskan wildlife.

Then, continue to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. Enjoy free time taking photos or walking down the hiking and nature trails, choosing a flexible departure time best suited to your schedule. A shuttle departs from the glacier to the Mt. Roberts Tramway every 30 minutes, making this tour well-suited for tight schedules.

Please note: Afternoon tours are reversed: The first stop is Mendenhall Glacier and includes and appointed pickup time, followed by a whale watching tour.

An excellent trip, great pilot found many whales and information was enlightening. Lunch was a bit hit and miss. Glacier a disappointment as you could not get close.

So Many Whales!!!

This was a great tour! Our ship the Joy arrived earlier then expected. The tour company was able to get us on an earlier tour which allowed us more time and sunlight... the Mendenhall Glacier was glorious and awe inspiring. But I gotta say it was the whale watching that ended up being the star of the show! So many whales! Even the crew was surprised at how many whales we encountered. Great tour!

We had great narrators and a great captain but whales didn’t cooperate and viewing was limited. But enjoyed it none the less.

Wonderful Experience

Everything was very well organized. Details for meeting and pick up were 'spot on'. Our tour group was about 20 passengers which made it very pleasant. No one was crawling over anyone to get views. Our 'nature guide 'Russel was very enthusiastic and eagerly shared his knowledge of the whales and their environment. We had about 15 sightings of whale activity along with seas lions and eagles. Excellent pictures opportunities. Our transfer to the Mendenhall Glacier went easy and certainly worth the visit. Excellent tour. I would recommend. One of our booking was sick and the tour company readily refunded 50% 0f the cost of the tour due to her illness. Much appreciated and speaks to the reputation of the tour company.

We saw humpback whales and even some Or as which we were told was pretty read to see... saw some baby humpbacks jumping.. amazing.. The glacier was also amazing.. the driver was brilliant, and although the shuttles bus should have stopped at 6pm .. she collected us at 6.30 as we were late arriving there... it gave us time to really see everything.

The whale watch was outstanding. Saw lots of humpbacks and orcas. Crew was excellent. Since it was raining the glacier portion was not as good, although we got very good views from an excellent visitor center. Transportation to and from the glacier was a bit confusing.

Excellent tour. Whale Watching and Mendenhall Glacier both were wonderful, very informative The part of whale watching experience was a lot of fun watching a curios baby humpback whale who appear just in front of our boat and kept swimming around and under the boat. The crew was experienced and knowledgeable .I highly recommend this company.

Early September 2019 trip to find the humpback whales, which we did find, but first we found a spectacular Orca pod with the killing of a seal and training it the young Orcas. Wow, what a speculator display of nature in the wild.
