Virtual Dal Bhat Private Cooking Class from Kathmandu

Nilam and Mira were great hosts. They were happy to answer many questions about Nepalese culture while we cooked and they ensured that each of us was keeping up despite being in different kitchens! The food was delicious too.

This was a wonderful class to have a travel “experience” right from home. Thank you so much to Nilam and his wife for the great conversation and delicious food. Booking times we’re flexible and ingredients were easy to find or adapt. Will definitely be booking again.

Nilam and Mina made the cooking class so fun! The ingredients needed for preparing the dish were easy to find and not expensive. Nilam explained very nicely that because dal bhat varies from place to place in Nepal, the vegetables or combinations of spices we include in ours at home can be flexible, but that does not make it less accurate or inauthentic. I appreciated the cultural experience of cooking by intuition rather than precise measurements and times, but it may be a big shift in your approach that you should be mentally prepared for. They were very patient when we needed more time to finish a step as well. The digital platform allows for multiple people to join in (my sister was in California, while my mom and I were in Montana) so get some friends together and do it! During the class, my husband passed through the kitchen and exclaimed, "wow, the smell is really taking me back to trekking in Nepal" and in the end, the taste did too.

We had an amazing time during this cooking class. Nilam is the kindest person and the food was fantastic. So happy that we learned how to cook Nepali with all those fresh ingredients and to find out it’s not so hard to do at home! Communication beforehand was perfect. In short, this couldn’t be better or more local.
