Seaplane flight from Ketchikan to Misty Fjords National Monument
See one of Alaska’s top wilderness regions from the air
Fly over alpine lakes, fjords, waterfalls and cliffs, and watch for local wildlife
Land on a fjord or lake to get a look at the scenery from the water
Learn about your surroundings from your pilot-guide
Meet your pilot at the Ketchikan Visitors Bureau across from the port, and climb aboard your six-passenger floatplane. During the flight, your pilot will provide commentary via your headset, which also plays a musical soundtrack. Rise over Tongass Narrows, a body of water located between Ketchikan and Gravina Island, and soar past Ketchikan. You’ll be amazed by the beauty of Tongass National Forest as you fly over Revillagigedo Island to Misty Fjords National Monument, about 40 miles (64 km) east of town.
Traveling through a low-hanging mist that gives the region its name, admire landscapes of cliffs, fjords and rock walls jutting straight out of the water. Forests of cedar, spruce and hemlock trees blanket vertical slopes, and waterfalls thunder down narrow granite passages.
Your pilot navigates over Rudyard Bay, giving you a great vantage point of New Eddystone Rock, a remnant of early volcanic activity. Don’t forget wildlife lives in this gorgeous wilderness, so keep watch for deer, wolves, bears and eagles.
Just when you think this flight couldn’t get any better, your pilot makes a smooth but exciting landing on one of the fjords or lakes (depending on weather conditions). Step out onto a pontoon right in the heart of the wilderness, and soak up the scenery.
Then, your 2-hour seaplane tour ends with drop-off back in Ketchikan.
Misty Fjords National Monument
Find yourself in the Misty Fjords National Monument Wilderness after 15 minutes aboard an Alaskan bush plane. View the grandeur of the fjords, carved out over 15,000 years ago. Take the opportunity during your water landing to appreciate the vast wilderness before your flight back to Ketchikan.
Wow... another incredible experience in Alaska. The tour was amazing and the views were spectacular!
My appreciation once again to VIATOR for their incredible offerings. We booked all 3 land excursions during our Holland America Alaska Cruise with VIATOR instead of the cruiseline, which is always risky. Everything went without a hitch and we saved a lot of money in the process.
This was the highlight of a fabulous Alaska vacation. Our pilot landed on the Fjord and allowed us to stand on the pontoon! It was so peaceful and quiet and there were no other planes/people out there. It was a week worth the money.
Our family group of 5 had an amazing experience with pilot Ray! Truly a once in a lifetime experience flying into Misty Fjords, landing on a serene mountain lake, and standing on the pontoon floats and taking in the beautiful scenery. Breathtaking! Highly recommend.
Awesome experience. Clark was a great pilot and informative. Loved the water and getting out on the pontoon. Would loved to have seen more wildlife, out of everyone's control though, but the Fjords and lakes are beautiful. The pickup at the ports and ride to the plane were seamless. Really appreciate the efficiency in the traveling we did in Alaska.
Our pilot was great, the weather was perfect and the views were very scenic. We only got to see seals, as far as wildlife was concerned, but that has nothing to do with the pilot. He was nice, professional and a cute.
