Unless you are very knowledgeable about religion the best way to experience the monastery is with a guide. I had a very experienced veteran guide on the tour. Was able to tell me about the background of the monastery, and the meanings of the many images I saw throughout the day. The most interesting part was the caves. Unfortunately you can not take pictures in many parts of the monastery. Also on the grounds is the Micro Miniatures Museum which was interesting.

Great private tour with a very knowledgeable guide an elderly lady with extensive knowledege of the Lavra and its history. A perfect and convenient way to get more out of your visit to the Lavra. Pick up from the hotel and drop off at the hotel or, in this case, at St. Sophia Cathedral. Highly recommended!
