Overview

Taste your way through Slovenia’s savory capital on this small-group food tour through Ljubljana. Taste nine national specialties as you explore the city on foot with your expert guide. No traditional meal would be complete without trying some Slovenian wine, so you try plenty of that as well. Between bites, learn about Ljubljana’s fascinating architectural and cultural history. Groups are no more than 15 people, to ensure a personalized experience.
  • Half-day guided walking tour showing off delicious Slovenian cuisine and wine
  • Sample up to nine traditional dishes and four Slovenian wines
  • Visit various types of restaurants in central Ljubljana, including a gostilna, a traditional tavern-like spot
  • Learn about the history and culture of Slovenia from the knowledgeable guide
  • Experience more than just food: learn about the architecture and art around town, getting an insider’s view of Ljubljana
  • Enjoy a small-group experience, with tour numbers limited to 15 people
Your small group tasting tour kicks off in downtown Ljubljana in front of the tourist information center. Meet your expert guide, who will serve as your culinary docent for the day, and your fellow diners, then set off for your first course. This often-overlooked country will surprise you with its diverse—and delicious—traditional specialties. Expect plenty of sausages, cured meats, local vegetables and burek (meat wrapped in a flaky phyllo dough).

Admire the Baroque-era and art deco architecture designed by Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik, as well as the charming cobblestone streets, as you walk from restaurant to street food stand and cafe. Listen as your guide explains how the dishes are made and mingle with the local restaurant staff. Sip four Slovenian wines for a true local dining experience.

As the tour comes to an end, you’ll be satiated and inspired, having sampled nine dishes total and ambled through the beautiful streets. As you bid farewell to your guide, continue exploring Ljubljana on your own.

The overall tour was fine. The Tour Guide worked very hard trying to share information with our group. However there were 14 in the group which was much too large to hear her without a listening device. Several of the restaurants were not prepared for such a large number. The first restaurant was not prepared at all. The wine portion was so small and the food was poorly presented not only was it poorly presented but it was a poor choice. The other 4 restaurants had excellent food, food presentation and wine. The 6th restaurants did not even provide water to go with the cake.

The food and wine were fine but the presentation just didn't quite work for me. I felt that the presenter seemed a bit fatigued and didn't have the enthusiasm of some other guides.

The Tour Operator was knowledgeable and friendly. The food was interesting and decent sized portions, however, the wine portions in most instances were very small, such that getting a real taste was challenging.

I scheduled this on my first night in the city, and was able to learn so much not just about the local food and wine, but also about the city, its people, and their history! The tour guide was very personable, friendly, and knowledgeable! Would definitely recommend if it's your first time visiting.

Nice small group and Inna was great! Tasted very good wine and food and Inna gave us lot's of tip and history of Slovenia. Recommend doing this the first day or two in Ljubljana so you can go back to some places visited during your stay. I ate at two of the places over the next two days.

Absolutely superb 4 hour walking...

Absolutely superb 4 hour walking tour commencing outside the Tourist Information Centre at the triple bridge. Tina Hrast is an excellent guide and keeps the group attentive at all times with her knowledgeable anecdotes relating to Slovenia's attractive and compact capital city. The emphasis is on the food and wine rather than on the city tour and I am pleased that I joined a 2 hour walking tour in the morning of the same day for an orientation and more complete guided tour. The two tours are both highly recommended and should not be an either / or choice. Back to Tina's tour - we visited 6 eateries in all and at the first five sampled food ranging from sardines and squids, through dumplings, turnip stew with pork, local sausage and prosciutto with bread, each accompanied by a different local wine. The final venue was 'the skyscraper' where we had a local desert - Mora moving layered cake with the option to purchase a Slovenian beer. It was certainly one of the best walking tours that I have ever joined. Highly recommended.
