Overview

Visit the Ardastra Gardens, Zoo and Conservation Centre with this all-inclusive admission ticket. Stroll through 4 acres (1.6 hectares) of verdant gardens, home to native mammals, reptiles and more than two hundred bird species. This 80-year-old refuge is home to specimens of the Caribbean Flamingo, the Bahamas' Native Bird. Get a chance to hand-feed South Pacific Lory Parrots and watch 'The Flamingo Experience' featuring the featured native birds.
  • Admission to the Ardastra Gardens, Zoo & Conservation Center
  • Entrance fees, exhibits and 'The Flamingo Experience' included
  • Explore more than 4 acres (1.6 hectares) of lush tropical gardens
  • Learn about the Bahamas native flora and fauna
  • See the National Bird, the Caribbean Flamingo
Make your way to the Ardastra Gardens, Zoo and Conservation Center, located just a few minutes' drive from downtown Nassau. Your admission ticket is good for opening hours, between 9am and 5pm daily. The center was created by Jamaican horticulturist Hedley Edwards, who later brought the famous Caribbean flamingos from the southern Bahamas as a contrast to the abundant greenery.

Explore the 4 acres (1.6 hectares) of verdant plant life and tropical gardens at your own pace. Take a break on a limestone bench hidden in a secluded corner, cross a footbridge as a kingfisher wades below and snap photos of the informal gardens. Watch the Bahamian ducks and swans paddle around the pond as freshwater turtles sun themselves on the rocks. While walking the Gardens, friendly and informed staff will answer questions while you explore.

Light refreshments are available at the canteen, and there is a gift shop featuring garden- and nature-themed souvenirs.

Your ticket includes admission to the 'Flamingo Experience', occurring at 10:30am, 2pm and 4pm daily and featuring the Bahamas' National Bird, the Caribbean Flamingo.

Ardastra Gardens, Zoo and Conservation Center
The Ardastra Gardens, Zoo & Conservation Centre is a peaceful 80 year-old retreat spread over 4 acres of lush tropical gardens just outside of Downtown Nassau. It is a unique combination of a botanical garden, a conservation centre and a boutique zoo that specializes in bird rescue & rehabilitation, education, preservation of history and conservation of natural resources. Ardastra is home to many native species of plants and animals - including the Bahamas National Tree, the Lignum Vitae; the Bahamas National Flower, the Yellow Elder and the Bahamas National Bird, the beautiful and exotic Caribbean Flamingo. We are well-known for our animal encounters that allow visitors to get "up close "with some of our residents. We encourage all of our visitors to take a guided tour for a better appreciation of our residents and our property. To maximize enjoyment, we also encourage our guests to schedule their visits around our Signature Showtimes: 10:30am, 1:30pm or 3:30pm. You can participate in the "Flamingo Experience", a unique show of the glory and antics of these incredible creatures together with an excellent narration of their story. Guests can also hand-feed the colourful and playful South Pacific Lory Parrots and have numerous photographic opportunities during your visit. While walking the Gardens, friendly and informed staff will answer questions while two-legged feathered friends will freely entertain. Light refreshments are available at the "Parrot Pit Stop". "Toby's Treasures" is filled with gifts/souvenirs so that you can take a piece of Ardastra home with you.

Love flamingo

Very well kept zoo and garden, staff was very nice and the flamingo show was the best. There’s a coconut stand and the vendor was very pleasant. A bit overpriced but, very interesting.

A nice change

This was a nice change from the usual beach or sightseeing excursions we usually take when we get off of our cruise ship. It wasn’t crowded, and all of the trees gave plenty of good shade. Our young grandsons liked looking at the animals and they thought the flamingos were funny. We were able to go inside the flamingo arena for pictures too. It’s nothing like our large zoos at home, but it was a nice easy relaxing day, and very well priced. It was maybe a 10 minute taxi ride from the cruise port.

Will be going back if we go back to Nassau again.

It was a very quiet, not over-crowded zoo. The staff was extremely friendly to the point that the zookeeper feeding the animals answered many questions for us while we were there. We saw the flamingo show which was great and we participated in the lorikeet feeding.

Get up n close to the flamingos! Watch them “march” in a show (or be selected to go in the arena with them), then hang out with them as they are not penned! We went for our daughter’s 1st bday and it couldn’t have been a more perfect experience!

A great visit if you like flamingos. The zoo is smaller than you would expect, but they are doing some good conservation work there. Watching the flamingo dance and program was great. Feeding the Lorries was a lot of fun as well. If you have the time, it is a quick visit and they can use the money to help their conservation efforts.

Small, but very nice little Zoo. The flamingos were running around us. The flamingo show was great, we even had the chance to make photos with the kids and the flamingos. No additional hidden costs for photos etc..

The gardens were close to deserted when we arrived and closed early so we had to leave. I wasn't too upset about it because there really wasn't that much to see. The grounds were also kind of messy. We watched a lackluster flamingo show while we were there. If you are really excited about going to zoos, you might like this, otherwise it can definitely be skipped.
