This bike tour was terrific—honestly, it might have been one of our favorite things we did while visiting Oaxaca. It was a great way to get out of the city and see more of the surrounding area.
Our guide, Xenon, was wonderful. He had a well-planned route and shared interesting information about the places we visited, as well as the local culture and customs. The small group—just us and one other couple—made the tour feel nice and personal.
One of the highlights was the rocky, uphill ride to the reservoir. It wasn’t easy, so be ready for a bit of a workout. But once we got there, we had the whole place to ourselves—it was peaceful and beautiful. The ride back down to town was fast and so much fun.
We were definitely tired by the end, but it was absolutely worth it.

We signed up for this ride with our two boys, 12 and 10 years old. Homero, the owner, immediately reached out to confirm that the boys had enough experience to handle the 35 km ride. We appreciated this honesty about how long/challenging the ride would be! He also invited us to stop by the store beforehand to make sure that he had bikes that would fit each of us (they did!). The tour itself was an awesome way to escape the city for a half day and enjoy the nearby nature. There were a couple challenging portions, but our guides were patient if we needed a break, or had to walk the bike for a moment up a wide dirt path. We loved the lunch/snakes by the reservoir and the Árbol del Tule. Both guides offered interesting facts about the local government and Oaxacan customs along the way. Highly recommend!

The bike trip to Tule tree was great. Our tour guide ( Leon) was both knowledgeable and helpful throughout. after the interesting visit to Tule tree we rode up to the reservoir and once cooled and hydrated returned back through Tule tree I would recommend this tour. His assistant was very helpful and made sure everyone was safe

Great tour guides. Nice flat ride to St Maria de Tule. Then. Fun trip through towns and a little off road biking.

Highly recommend this tour led by zenon and Israel. The bikes were in great shape, they provided a helmet and water.
We rode down an old rail line now bike path carefully crossing roads since cars don’t always respect bikes here. We arrived at the tule tree where zenon had one of the youths of the area guide us through the different images in this magnificent cypress giant.
After this we rode through country roads to a dam now lake to enjoy some
Nature.
Great way to see the outskirts of Oaxaca.

The guides were great -zenon and Rocío. The bike trip was very difficult for us because we were not expecting such a difficult trip - it was too long and difficult.

The bike tour was such a great time! We loved exploring the country side, riding up to the lakes for a view of the mountains. It was such a special addition to our trip. Also bfast was spectacular!

This was a beautiful and engaging tour led by Zenon! The opportunity to have more physicality in our vacation was great, and the sites did not disappoint! The Tule tree was extremely impressive, and the more rural areas outside of the city were beautiful and peacful too.
We met at the tour office and after sizing our bikes and fueling up with extra water, set off from the office. The riding was manageable, and our guide adjusted according to our fitness (we did some extra climbing to test our mettle :) ). The ride out of Oaxaca de Juarez was fairly straightforward, just zig-zagging a bit through the morning pedestrians and then in a bike lane. After that, it was a easy flat ride out to Santa Maria del Tule. We stopped for breakfast to chat and relax a bit before touring the Tule tree. Zennon did a great job explaining details about the tree, as well as the historical significance of the tree and area more generally.
Then off to the reservoirs for us! The ride got a little more engaging as we climbed, but was not too extreme. We stopped at the first, smaller reservoir for a bit before climbing further to the larger one. We relaxed a bit at the top, had a beer and then set off on the return!
Zenon led a great tour - he took time to explain things around us, the history of the area, and set a very relaxed tone throughout. Zennon even took the time to let us watch some of the Guelaguetza performances in Santa Maria del Tule before we made the final trek of the ride home!

I went on this bike trip with my 9 year old son , and it was a true highlight of our week in Oaxaca. Our guides, Xenon and Israel, were friendly, informative, and very attuned to keeping everyone safe.
Getting from downtown to the bike path requires attentive biking, as you cross a few busy roads & intersections, but you quickly come to the bike path ("ciclovia") on Avenida Ferrocarril that is protected from traffic, except for periodic road crossings. As you get further from the city, you are biking on either dedicated bike/pedestrian paths or streets with very little car traffic.
The Tule tree and surrounding plaza are absolutely beautiful, and we enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the community food market before biking on toward the quiet village of Santo Domingo Tomaltepec and beyond. We didn't make it as far as the dams, but our guides were happy to adjust the itinerary to our needs.
Overall this was an excellent trip, and being on bikes was a fun way to get to experience a bit more of the nature and culture of Oaxaca and its surrounding communities.
