Karlstejn Castle Bike Trip from Prague

The day starts with finding the bike shop, which is nicely located not far from the main square so it is easily accessible from most points. You then handle the minor paperwork, get outfitted with a bike and some water, choose whether to go with a helmet, meet your tour guide and get ready to roll. In our case our tour guide was Micky spelling? and besides the two of us there was a nice young couple from Australia, making a group of five. That was optimal, since we alternated riding close to our guide to gain his insights on what we were seeing, the history of the area, his experiences in moving to Prague vs other places he has lived in Europe etc. He was a very friendly and accommodating guide and the pace was easy and beautiful. There were some points where there were small challenging inclines, but those were by far the exception rather than the rule. The lunch spot was a very nice traditional Czech restaurant that seemed to be accommodating mostly locals with a few other cycling groups in attendance. Freshly grilled/smoked meats featured heavily in the options. None of us opted to take the castle tour, so after we walked up to the castle you leave your bikes at the start of the castle village and walk up we took advantage of all of the nice viewpoints for photos and enjoyed walking around and then came back down to go to the train station for the return trip to Prague and the short ride from there back to the cycle shop. We absolutely loved this day, it was our top adventure while visiting Prague. The Bohemian Switzerland National Park hike came in a close second, with a bigger gap between that and other tours. All active people should consider both, but definitely consider this one!

This bike trip is fabulous! The bikes are comfortable, the guides fun and informative and the landscape is magical. Picture cycling through the city, then along a bike path over bridges and railway crossings, past fields of poppies in season and beautiful old homes, through villages and gorgeous countryside. There are a couple of steepish sections raised heart-beat for unseasoned cyclists, but e-bike not absolutely necessary but would help!. The lunch stop is great and the food delicious and cheap compared to Prague city prices. The Castle itself is huge and picturesque, well worth the climb up. This is a big day out, with lots of fresh air and exercise. Just do it!!

This can be a bit punishing, particularly if it's hot. The bike ride is approx 37k in total with a couple short hills, which you can walk up if needed. Lunch was great although not included in the price. Total for 3 of us was approx. 14 with soft drinks. Walk up to the castle was tough going but there are plenty of places to catch your breath on the way up. The train ride home was welcome! Sasha our guide was knowledgeable and fun. He made sure we kept to time and answered all of our questions.

Loved this tour. Full day ride through the countryside to the castle with a few stops along the way. Small group. Overall, a great day!

Excellent experience. Easy ride, beautiful destination. We had a very small group, so we were able to tailor the experience to suit our preferences.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! I would highly recommend it if you like to bike and want to see Czech in a different view. The tour can be up to 10 bikers but when we did it, it was only my husband and I. It was great! We bike often so we were able to keep a good pace and ended early. There are a few breaks during the bike ride. There are a few uphill sections. You go through a bunch of different terrain- smooth bike path, city cobbles stones, rocky pavement, and uneven surfaces. I wouldn't recommend it for beginner riders. After biking 22 miles, it was a little tiring to climb the steep hills to get to the castle but worth it! Nice view. We opted not to go into the castle as we have seen others before and just spent time browsing the many shops along the way. which I found was cheaper than in Prague city center. Eg. Shirts were 150-200kc. Jacob, our bike/tour guide, was excellent. He gave us good explanations of everything and catered to our level of biking ability. The restaurant we stopped at was excellent. Try the chicken noodle soup and chicken schnitzel. Its amazing! The train ride back to Prague was relaxing. It was a few minutes from the castle area. There is a train car for bikes so it wasn't bad. 40 min ride and then another 5 min bike back to the shop. Praha Bike Shop is a few minutes walk from Old Town Square which was convenient for us There was an issue on start time- Viator's voucher says 9am but they said it really starts at 9:30 and that Viator got it wrong. So we had to wait a little longer than expected. I would recommend calling the bike shop when you arrive to confirm meeting time to avoid any confusion.

I really enjoyed this bike tour- it's the third of it's kind that I've done, but was definitely the longest. Eighteen miles in the saddle is decent length trip, especially for those unaccustomed to riding for that long. There were about 3 hills that were fairly steep that required a little extra umph to get up. Our small group of 5 elected not to tour the castle, just admire the grounds and buildings. What they neglect to tell you is that there is a pretty steep walk to get up to the castle- no moat needed to keep this place safe!

As we were unable to find the office to meet at by using their easy directions, we did not arrive in time, despite allowing 45 minutes and trying to call the office repeatedly. Even a lovely helpful local could not make out where the office was from the directions we had printed from the booking.

I really enjoyed the bike tour. Before heading out to Karlstejn we rode around old town Prague. The ride along the river was really nice. Mostly flat and easy with a few easy hills. A very nice way to see the countryside. We stopped mid way for a beer break which was a nice treat. The guide was a nice young guy originally from Ukraine. I forgot his name but he was a real nice and knowledgeable guy and the info he shared about of the area was very interesting. If I get to return to Prague, I'll definitely join this bike tour company again.
