Your tour begins outside of the Hon-Shiogama Station in Matsushima. From here, you’ll head to a green tea store to sample different high-grade varieties and a sake-based green tea cocktail.
Then, head to a sake brewery to learn about Japan’s national drink’s history and, of course, sample a few sake varieties. Your next stop is Kanrantei Tea House, where you’ll experience a tea ceremony surrounded by the intricate wall paintings of the Goza-no-ma room, usually closed to the public.
Following the ceremony, you’ll take a walking tour of Matsushima’s historic center and visit the Zuiganji Temple, declared a Japanese national treasure.
See, too, the Godaido and Entsuin Temple, and if time permits, visit the ancient Saigyo Modish pine tree. Your tour concludes at Matsuhima-Kaigan metro station.
Please note: guests taking the tour on a Sunday, when the sake brewery is closed, take a sightseeing boat ride on Matsushima Bay instead.
