Why Travelers Choose This Tour
More affordable than a private tour, this Alps day trip still feels intimate thanks to a small group size.
Venice is hard to say goodbye to – even for the day – but the Dolomites may help you forget about it for a few hours. After meeting your driver-guide, hop in your comfortable minivan and head north through the rustic Northern Italian landscape. The first stop is the ski resort town of Cortina d'Ampezzo. Take some free time here to go shopping in the chic boutiques, enjoy a coffee and dessert at a cafe or just explore the town before heading to your next stop. Arrive at Lake Misurina, or the 'Pearl of the Dolomites,' as it is sometimes called. The lake is especially picturesque with the Tre Cime di Lavaredo in the background, three distinctive peaks that tower in the distance and one of the most well-known mountain groups in the Alps. Drive toward the peaks and stop to get an amazing view. Later, sit down at a local trattoria for a traditional Dolomite lunch (at own expense) and then take some free time to go on a stroll around the lake. Or, if you'd rather rest your legs, continue relaxing at the restaurant. Meet up with your driver-guide at the set time and begin your journey back, arriving in Venice in the early evening. Please note: From November 15th until Tre Cime di Lavaredo reopens (around the third week of May) this tour will visit Braies Lake and San Candido, located on the border of Austria) instead of Lake Misurina and Tre Cime di Lavaredo. From November 23rd to January 6th you'll also visit the San Candido Christmas Market.
We absolutely loved this tour. We went on a spring day which was cool, but beautiful. We loved the Dolmites. Yes, you spend a lot of time in the van, but it's definitely worth it. There were many highlights, but we particularly loved a lake we went to that was still frozen over and surrounded by mountains and Cortina D'Ampezzo. We also enjoyed our lunch in San Candido, a small town in northern Italy where all the signs were in German and the restaurants serve German food. It was like being in Austria. This was the highlight of our trip to Europe. If you've already been to Venice, as we had, it is worth the trip. We and others on the tour didn't want to return to Venice.
We loved our trip to the Dolomite Mountains and Cortina! The sheer mass of the mountains were awe inspiring, especially seeing them from a distance and getting up closer to feel the height and mass of them. Our guide had lots of information to share with us and really made the trip come to life. We had lots of opportunities to take pictures, stretch our legs, have a meal and learn more about this beautiful country.
We where advised by Viator to take the People mover transporter at Tronchetta (20 mins trip to the meeting point) for a 8:00 start, however the transporter doesn’t open until 8:10 on Sundays, so we had to walk the 2.5kms to the meeting point, luckily we had left early from our motel and just made it in time.
Marco our driver advised he has made this trip many many times over 8 years and was a fantastic guide and company, which made the rest of the day outstanding for us and all the other travellers.
This was probably the thing we were most looking forward to on our holiday and we weren't disappointed...it was AMAZING! Giovanni was our driver and guide and he was so knowledgeable and passionate about everywhere we visited. The scenery was jawdropping and we had great views from the van very clean and comfortable. There were plenty of stops and enough free time to have a good wander around. We went to the recommended places for coffee and also for lunch and were extremely impressed, infact lunch was the best lasagna we've ever had! This is something we would highly recommend and we're so glad we did it!
We loved our day in the Dolomites with Luka! He helped to make our day fun and special. He was such a careful driver and even checked with the local police on road conditions. He worked very hard to make our day special. He did not disappoint. Viator, you offer quality service and great professional leaders.
We wanted to experience the alpine views and thought that this would be a good trip.
We were a group of 6 in a mini bus and drove for a couple of hours to reach our first stop - a beautiful tranquil dammed lake near a small settlement - which was mostly closed. We then drove further to enjoy the views until reaching our lunch point in a small town near to a lake. The town was largely closed. Onto Cortina where we had a 30 mins stop within a town that was again mostly shut.
Our driver was very helpful but the commentary was mostly conversational to the front passengers and was inaudible to those sat at the rear.
I am pleased to have seen the great sights and the team were very helpful this was a long day filled with a lot of driving and not to much content.
We were blessed to have clear skies with some clouds so that we could witness the grandeur of these Italian Alps. The clouds would part with blue skies and then mist over in bits and pieces occasionally so that we got some wonderful views. Lunch by the lake (on our own) was a treat. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable.
