After booking this tour, a guide will help arrange train tickets from Vienna: tickets are 10 Euros per person each way. Upon arrival at Mödling, explore the historic town’s old fashioned architecture and well-preserved old town, then keep walking out of the city and into the woods. Your route will pass small wine villages and fields, and parts of the Wienerwald, or Vienna Woods.
This day includes roughly 4.5-hours of walking, with 1312 feet (400 meters) of altitude change, but you’ll have plenty of breaks to fuel up with local food and drink. Stop in small Heurigers, a traditional Austrian wine pub, for local treats, beer, and wine (food and drink are not included in the price of the tour).
Walk to Castle Liechtenstein, once owned by the founders of the country by the same name, and continue past Burgruine Mödling, the 11th-century castle ruins that are the oldest in the area. See the Schwarzer Turn, or Black Tower, and find a 200-year-old amphitheater that’s almost covered over by forest.
When you reach Baden, you’ll have time to explore the classic spa town, from the 1909 City Theater to the bathhouses that still visitors from around Europe. This tour concludes with a return trip to Vienna by train.
