Spend a half day hiking around southern Iceland's Sólheimajökull glacier with a small group on this tour. Follow your hiking guide over the rugged terrain and learn about the glacial formation as you walk. All necessary equipment included.
  • Half-day hike on Sólheimajökull glacier
  • All necessary equipment included
  • Small group ensures personalized attention
  • Learn about southern Iceland's flora and fauna
Dressed appropriately for the cold, and wearing hiking boots, meet your guide and small group in Sólheimajökull parking lot at your scheduled time.

After a brisk walk, arrive on the glacier and take in the sight of the millennia-old blue ice while your guide sets you up with all necessary equipment. Led by your experienced guide, embark upon the walk of a lifetime across the compacted ice. Your guide adjusts the pace and level of difficulty according to the needs and abilities of the group. Relax, knowing you are in careful hands, as your guide explains all about the formation of the glacier and how it is changing.

Take the time to soak up the eerie quietness and sense of isolation as you stand atop the glacier tongue. On a clear day, admire the view of the ice cap-covered volcano Eyjafjallajökull, which famously brought European air traffic to a halt when it erupted in 2010.

This was a highlight of our trip to Iceland. Amazing experience and views from the top. I would recommend for everyone to take the hike up the glacier.

Had this tour been in America, you would have put all the gear on, walked to the bottom portion of the glacier, and taken a few good photos to send home. This was an authentic glacier hike where you got to hike to the top and really get the full experience. No climbing is necessary using harnesses or pick axes, just basic crampons, hiking boots, and a pick axe to help as a walking stick. I’d imagine this is much easier in the warmer months when the ice is soft. Had it been winter and the ice was more frozen, it’d be a lot more slippery. I’d say it is fine for all ages as long as you are in good shape. Our guide was great, spoke perfect English, and was able to provide some insight on Icelandic culture.
