Floating markets are a popular attraction for travelers to Thailand, and the Tha Kha Floating Market is a less touristy, more local option that’s great for avoiding the crowds. It’s smaller than some others and is an especially good place to buy cooked food as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. It’s a fun half-day trip destination from central Bangkok and will give you a taste of the Thai countryside without going too far.

Escape Bangkok’s bustle on a 6-hour, private tour of Tha Kha floating market, where vendors paddle wooden boats piled with fragrant lotus blossoms, coconuts and handicrafts, selling their wares in a palm lined canal. Bargain for traditional cloth or carvings, sample local delicacies, and then explore a hidden jungle temple. Wat Bang Koong buried for years in thick foliage; step through trailing vines into its intimate shrine, and pay your respects to a gleaming, golden Buddha.

Thaka - Thailand's most authentic Floating Market

Thaka - Thailand's most authentic Floating Market

star-1
1
Of the many floating markets in Thailand, Thaka is perhaps the most 'authentic' version that there is. Vastly different than the neighbouring floating markets at Damnern Saduak and Amphawa, Thaka is not usually on the maps of most tourists. It could be considered as the last of its kind and it would be a wise decision to visit before it too welcomes mass tourist numbers. This quaint, laidback floating market is still fully operational. Just as they have been doing for years, the locals buy and sell fruits, meats, fish and more from their floating wooden sampan in a very relaxed, old-world vibe. Nearby is a coconut plantation where the farmer makes palm sugar the traditional, old fashioned way. Another stop on this tour will be at Wat Bang Kung, a century's old temple that has been surrounded by the roots of a massive Banyan Tree. The tour will finish off with a lunch break at an open-air restaurant which is right on the side of the Mae Kong River and enjoys the river breeze.

Unspoiled Outdoors - Thaka Floating Market & Erawan Falls

60kms from Bangkok is one of the most authentic floating markets in Thailand, Thaka Floating Market. Your guide will meet you at your hotel at 7.00am and take you past rural farmland and coconut plantations to this functioning weekend floating market where easy-going locals welcome you to their age-old lifestyle. Still primarily geared toward the local market, you will want to take advantage of the very cheap Thai coffee, snacks, drinks, etc. Combine your visit to Thaka with other nearby places for the ideal full-day. Travel the scenic countryside past typical Thai homes, farmland and markets. Visit Kanchanaburi's JEATH Museum. Step into a reconstructed hut resembling the living quarters of WW2 POWs to see paintings and photos of, and by, the prisoners. Ride by long-tail speedboat for a Thai Set Menu Lunch. Walk on the railway tracks over the Bridge over the River Kwai with your guide. Hop into your vehicle to see nature at its most beautiful, being the 7-tiered Erawan Waterfall.

Sights In Samut Songkhram & Kanchanaburi Provinces

Sights In Samut Songkhram & Kanchanaburi Provinces

This full day Private tour with English speaking Guide takes you just beyond the hustle and bustle of Bangkok to see a charming, authentic floating market in Samut Songkhram province followed by Kanchanaburi's World War II sites, most notably the infamous Bridge over the River Kwai, plus nearby Khmer temple ruins which date back many centuries. Leave from your centrally located Bangkok hotel and travel out of the city, eventually passing coconut plantations to reach Thaka Floating Market. Having explored this market, largely hidden away from western tourists, move to locations with a tragic past where you can reflect, namely the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery and JEATH War Museum, before catching a long-tail speedboat to eat near the town's infamous bridge. Walk across the Bridge over the River Kwai then a drive of approximately 30 minutes will take you to Prasat Singh Historical Park and its Khmer temple ruins of the 13th and 14th centuries.
